WOONSOCKET – A Providence man accused in the robbery and shooting death of gas station manager David D. Main outside Citizens Bank last fall has been sentenced to serve 18 years for violating his probation in connection with prior armed robberies.
Pleau, 33, was the gunman in a three-way conspiracy to the rob Main, 49, as he was depositing receipts from the nearby Shell station where he worked on Sept. 20, according to federal prosecutors.
WOONSOCKET –Facing unbeaten Johnston High on Friday, Woonsocket coach John Marsella couldn’t have asked for a better effort from his squad on a windy afternoon at Barry Field.
The Villa Novans had timely hitting, a strong outing from lefthander Brandon Perrico and some top-notch defensive plays.
They even had a controversial, game-ending double play go their way.
All those positives added up to a big win for Woonsocket as it handed its Division II-North rival its first loss of the season with a 5-4 victory.
PASCOAG- Faith E. Weekly, 11, of East Wallum Lake Road, Pascoag, lost her life long battle with cancer on May 4, 2011 at home surrounded by her family.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Sean C. Weekly and Debra L. Wright.

LAS VEGAS, NV- Claudette Kemp, 72, daughter of Jeanette & Arbea Gouin, born in Woonsocket, RI, October 8, 1938, passed away March 22, 2011 at her home in Las Vegas, NV from a bout with cancer.
Joseph George Savard
NO. SMITHFIELD- Joseph George (Sonny) Savard 75, resident of No. Smithfield RI died surrounded by his family at his home. Husband of the late Lucille (Beauregard) Savard.
Born in Woonsocket RI, a son of the late George & Jeannette (Belair) Savard.

WOONSOCKET --- Winning close games hasn’t been a strong point for Mount St. Charles Academy this year, but on Thursday afternoon, the Mounties found a way to take a tight battle with St. Raphael Academy.
The Mounties broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and received a strong outing from senior pitcher Collins Uttermann to down the Saints, 5-2, in their Division I-North meeting.
The victory was a much-needed one for the host Mounties, who raised their record to 5-7 and came into the contest with losses in four of their last six games.
WOONSOCKET — Union employees at Landmark Medical Center and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island have voted overwhelmingly to issue a strike notice if RegionalCare Hospital Partners of Tennessee emerges as the successful bidder for the facilities.
PROVIDENCE — Medical marijuana patients say they did all the right things.
They went to the General Assembly to get medical marijuana made legal, they testified at hearings. First they got a law allowing the use of marijuana for chronically ill patients, then they went through the legislative process all over again, testifying at even more hearings, to get a law creating compassion centers where they could get their medicine legally, safely and regularly without having to grow it themselves or have someone do it for them.
Bertha F. Moon
WOONSOCKET- Bertha F. (Rutka) Moon, 97, of Rockland Ave., died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Moon. A lifelong Woonsocket resident, she was the daughter of the late Karol and Julia (Kurowska) Rutka.
Frances (Durkin) Clifford
CUMBERLAND- Frances (Durkin) Clifford, 88, formerly of Old Diamond Hill Road died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Sakonnet Bay Manor, Tiverton. She was the wife of the late Charles L. Clifford, Jr.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Helen C. (Schmeider) Durkin, she had lived in Woonsocket for over 45 years before moving to Emerald Bay Manor in Cumberland 10 years ago.
She was a graduate of Classical High School and the University of Rhode Island where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.
