Agency upgrades Central Falls' bond rating

CENTRAL FALLS – As an endorsement of the steps toward fiscal solvency taken by state receivers and the city’s plan to emerge from bankruptcy, the Standard & Poor’s rating agency has upgrade Central Falls’ bond rating to BB with a “stable” outlook.
The city had previously had a C rating with a “developing” outlook. On the day after the city officially emerged from bankruptcy last month, Moody’s Investors Service upgraded the city’s bond ratings from Caa1 to B2 and changed its outlook to “positive.”

WOONSOCKET- Constance Theresa (Crepeau) Pelletier, 88, formerly of Cote Avenue, passed away Thursday October 4th, 2012 in the Woonsocket Health and RehabilitationCenter. She was the wife of the late Leo O. Pelletier.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Philibert and Blanche (Lemay) Crepeau. She resided in Woonsocket for most of her life, previously residing in Maineand Connecticut.
She was a 1943 graduate of the WoonsocketHigh School, and was a member of the Alumni Association.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Yvonne E. (Taber) Roderick, 88, of Rhodes Ave. died Thursday November 15, 2012 in St. Antoine Residence, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late William Roderick.
Born in Pawtucket, daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Guindon) Taber.
Yvonne worked as a Spinner in Worsted Textile for 35 years and also Burger King for 10 years prior to retiring.
She was a former member of St. Joseph Senior Citizens and AARP.

Martinez convicted of sexual assault

PROVIDENCE – The Woonsocket High School senior was unconscious when a fellow classmate sexually assaulted her in 2009, but the defendant claimed the act was consensual.
It took a Superior Court jury six hours to convict Dariel Martinez on Thursday, Attorney General Peter Kilmartin said.
Martinez, 20, is to be sentenced on Jan. 18 on one count of first-degree sexual assault. The crime is punishable by 25 years to life in prison.

SMITHFIELD- Roger J. Sylvestre Jr., 63, of Mowry Dr. Smithfield, died November 2, 2012 at home. He was the husband of Jacqueline M. (Nula) Sylvestre.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Roger Sr. and Kathleen (Keegan) Sylvestre.
He worked for Privilege Auto Parts of Woonsocket for many years. Roger served in the United States Army during Vietnam.

WOONSOCKET- Constant L. "Larry" Petrin, 78, of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully answering the Lord's call with family by his side on Monday, November 13, 2012 at the Trinity Health Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Elaine A. (Letendre) Petrin.
Born in Woonsocket on September 5, 1934, he was the son of the late Arthur O. and Olivine Petrin.

WOONSOCKET — When his friend first proposed they go into business together providing gardening supplies for medical marijuana growers, Jeff Paige had cold feet.
The 51-year-old refugee from the telecommunications industry wasn’t against legal pot, medical or otherwise. But he’s no crusader, either, and he’s pretty careful about how he invests his money.
He took a hard and long look at whether the idea made business sense.
“I think what I was really doing was looking for a reason not to do it,” says Paige. “Now I’m kicking myself that I didn’t do this two years ago.”

Arrests made in rash of car breaks

GLOCESTER — Three Cranston teens were charged in a rash of vehicle breaks in two towns after police were summoned to a report of a house break in progress early Wednesday.
James Clark, 18, and two 17-year-old boys, were tied to a string of more than 20 motor vehicle breaks that occurred during a 24-hour period here and in neighboring Burrillville last week, said Capt. Joseph V. Mattera.

PROVIDENCE- Hare, Preston James 72, died Monday, November 12, 2012 at home.
He was born in Providence, the son of the late R. Clayton L. and Hilda (Eddy) Hare. He was a self -employed realtor for many years, after a career with the Providence Gas Co.
He is survived by two daughters, Rachel Shields and Katherine Smith and one son, David Hare, his sister Linda Hare Rawlings, one brother Craig Overton, and 5 grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Janet Overton Beall.
