McJennett replaces Flanders as C.F. receiver

CENTRAL FALLS – Saying it heralds a “new period in Central Falls’ recovery,” Gov. Lincoln Chafee has appointed John F. McJennett III, as the city’s new receiver, replacing the controversial Robert Flanders.
McJennett is the former executive director of DEPCO (Rhode Island Depositors Economic Protection Corporation), the state’s response to the credit union crisis in 1991.

127 earn diplomas at BMR

BLACKSTONE – As they said goodbye to Blackstone-Millville Regional High School Friday evening, 127 members of the Class of 2012 had plenty to think about as they sat in front of the school's entrance with their family members and teachers nearby.
Yes, as they would be told by the speakers coming to stand before them, they had worked hard to get to graduation night and learned many things at BMR that they would take with them into college, military service or future work careers.

174 graduate from Bellingham High

BELLINGHAM — On a breezy, cool Friday evening, 174 Bellingham High School Blackhawks completed 13 years of formal schooling and did it with class and style.
"One of the greatest joys as an educator and a parent is to watch children grow and witness their accomplishments and realize their goals," School Supt. Edward L. Fleury said at Friday's 74th commencement exercises to honor the Class of 2012 graduating seniors.

Budget Commission seeks fast-track of state aid

WOONSOCKET – As expected, one of the newly seated Woonsocket Budget Commission’s first official deeds was to ask the state to hand over some $3.1 million in school aid to the cash-strapped Woonsocket Education Department nearly a month sooner than it was due.
It’s still not enough to get the WED through its last pay period of the year, on June 29, and the panel will go back to the drawing board on Tuesday to reassess its options.

Davies takes care of Central Falls, advances to Div. III softball finals

LINCOLN — The sixth time was the charm.
After watching a successful season get cut short in the Division III semifinal round in each of the last five years, Davies took a torch to the history books and finally earned the right to play for a state championship.
A 10-run uprising in the home half of the second inning, sparked by a grand slam home run to center field by Madison Cooper, and another remarkable outing by ace pitcher Madison Goodhart were the keys to the Patriots’ 15-2 triumph over Central Falls on Friday afternoon.

WOONSOCKET- Paulette R. Baillargeon, 74, of Woonsocket passed away peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Woonsocket Health Center with her family by her side.
Born in Woonsocket on March 25, 1938, she was the daughter of the late William and Lucille (Lottinville) Baillargeon.
She was the beloved sister of Lucette Martel and her husband, Albert of Bellingham. She leaves her cherished nieces and nephew, Alan Martel and his wife Renee of Uxbridge, MA, Rochelle Mancuso of Millville, MA and Melissa Riley of Foxboro, MA.
