Believe it or not, as far-flung as this may sound, there was a time when this corner believed Bobby Valentine would somehow be granted a stay of execution and return as manager of the Red Sox next season.
WOONSOCKET â Before it served city middle school students, the former Woonsocket Middle School at Park Square had quite a long history as home to Woonsocket High School and its junior high school program.
That history could soon become a film for use by schools, libraries and historical societies if two local filmmakers, Scott Gabrielson and Jason Allard have their way.
BURRILLVILLE â Fitch Ratings re-affirmed the town's AA municipal bond rating, which means the town will be able to secure a lower interest rate when it sells bonds to finance major projects.
Fitch Ratings is one of three private companies that rates the credit risk of companies and municipalities planning to sell debt. It has 10 âinvestment gradeâ categories ranging from a best of AAA to BBB-. The ratings allow investors to form an opinion on whether they are likely to be repaid.
Rachel V. Dubey
BURRILLVILLE- Rachel V. (Soucy) Dubey, 79, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 in Pine Grove Health Center, Pascoag. She was the wife of the late Roderick P. Dubey.
Born in St. Francis, ME, she was the daughter of the late Victorie and Cesare (Michaud) Soucy.
Rachel worked as a dietary aide at Zambarano Hospital of Pascoag for many years. She also worked as a bus monitor for Nelson's Bus Company of Burrillville and for the Tri-Town Head Start Program.
Edward A. Mariani
WOONSOCKET- Edward A. Mariani, 83, of Walnut Hill Rd. died October 3rd at Woonsocket Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Anna Jean (Vona) Mariani.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Gaetano and Francesca (Santilli) Mariani.
Edward was a meat cutter for Quinn Meat Packing Co. for over twenty years before retiring in the late seventies. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Edward was an avid cribbage player.
GARDEN GROVE, CA- Rita Latraverse, 89, a resident of Garden Grove, Ca. died on Sept. 3, 2012, at Valley View Gardens, an Alzheimer Residential Care Home. Rita was the wife of the late Normand Latraverse.
DENVER â In a showdown at close quarters, President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney sparred aggressively in their first campaign debate Wednesday night over taxes, deficits and strong steps needed to create jobs in a sputtering national economy. "The status quo is not going to cut it," declared the challenger.
Obama in turn accused his rival of seeking to "double down" on economic policies that actually led to the devastating national downturn four years ago â and of evasiveness on details for Romney proposals on tax changes, health care, Wall Street regulation and more.

WOONSOCKET â A 24-year-old city man was charged with domestic assault by strangulation, domestic kidnapping and other charges. Police said they lodged the charges against Shane Michael Hall after speaking to officers from Franklin, Mass. on Monday.
The Massachusetts officers said the victim, a 19-year-old woman, told them she had been assaulted by Hall in Franklin that same day and they were giving her a courtesy ride back to Woonsocket. When they interviewed her, Franklin police said, the woman also revealed she had been brutally strangled by Hall in Woonsocket on Sept. 26.
Emile H. Willerval
WOONSOCKET- Emile H. Willerval, 71, of Clinton St. passed away peacefully on Tuesday at home, with his loving family by his side.
Born, Sept. 18, 1941 in Woonsocket he was the son of the late Henry & Margaret (McGovern) Willerval.
Emile was employed as a assembler for the GMC plant in Framingham, MA., retiring when the plant closed.
His favorite pastime was fishing.
He is survived by 2 Daughters, Lorry A. Sobolewski of Chepachet, RI & Cheryl A. Brannan of Woonsocket. also 4 Grandchildren & 2 Great Grandchildren.
