Lincoln High confers 210 diplomas

LINCOLN – Lincoln High School’s class of 2012 marched into the future with words of reverence for great teachers and courageous alumni, plus a bit of guidance for weathering any adversity except, perhaps, the end of the world.
“Sit down, breathe, find perspective,” said Valedictorian Dory Enright. “Nothing is ever the end of the world, unless it is.”

GLOCESTER — It was a class of students Principal Sandra Nolan described as "kind, well-behaved, good-natured and committed to community service."
"Talk to the teachers, administrators and custodians, and they will all tell you that they will miss this particular group of students," Nolan told friends and family members of the 190 Ponaganset High School seniors who earned diplomas at Friday's 51st Commencement.
The Class of 2012, Nolan predicted, is ready to show those same attributes when they head off to college, the military and their work careers in the fall.

WOONSOCKET- Doris M. (Langelier) Bligh, 90, of Woonsocket, died June 14, 2012 in Woonsocket Health & Rehabilitation Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late William F. Harrigan and the late James J. Bligh.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Alice (Brodeur) Langelier.
Doris was a 1940 graduate of Blackstone High School. She worked for 15 years as an inspector for the A. T. Cross Company, Lincoln retiring in 1984. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Woonsocket. Doris enjoyed traveling.

WOONSOCKET- Madeleine S. Governo, 71, of 100 Front St. died Thursday at Landmark Medical Center.
She was born in Pawtucket a daughter of the late Joseph and Florina (Blain) Governo. Madeleine was a customer service representative for CD Burns for twenty two years before retiring in 2002.
She is survived by a daughter Vanessa Governo of Woonsocket, a brother Joseph Governo Jr. of Blackstone, MA, three sisters Dolores Masse of Woonsocket, Theresa Seagrave of Mapleville, and Suzanne Landry of Pawtucket, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

BLACKSTONE- Lionel J. Gagnon, 85, of Blackstone, MA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth M. (Bureau) Gagnon.
Born in Blackstone, MA on November 26, 1926, he was the son of the late Wilbrod and Evea (Fleurant) Gagnon.

Fontaine: Chafee promises not to veto Landmark legislation

WOONSOCKET -- Mayor Leo Fontaine announced Friday that Gov. Lincoln Chafee has assured him that he will not veto legislative changes to the Hospital Conversions Act sought by Landmark Medical Center's prospective buyer, Steward Health Care of Boston.
Fontaine said he met with Gov. Lincoln Chafee on Thursday and told him that hospital officials were convinced the veto would kill the deal and hasten the demise of the struggling community hospital.

Gist to Woonsocket Schools: We'll think about it

WOONSOCKET — The School Committee Wednesday offered the keys to the Woonsocket Education Department to the Rhode Island Department of Education, saying the city simply doesn’t have the money to comply with all the mandates heaped upon it by the state.
“You come in and take care of your unfunded mandates,” Committeeman Chris Roberts said. “You have created all the laws we have to comply with.”
The School Committee will send a letter to Education Commissioner Deborah Gist saying it can’t operate with available funds and still comply with the minimum Basic Education Plan.

WOONSOCKET- Dennis Caron, 57, of Waterview Apts., Woonsocket, passed away at Philip Hulitar House on June 9, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Beverly (Hanson) Caron for 30 years.
Son of Mary (Saporito) Caron of FL and the late Eugene Caron.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters Brooke Caron, Chelsea Caron and a son Eric Caron, 5 grandchildren Eric Jr., Jayden, William, Lucas and Sabato, 3 sisters Snooke Niquette of FL, Diane Hovey of Glocester, and Linda Turcotte of Uxbridge, 1 brother Peter Caron of FL.

Raymond E. Pouliot

PASCOAG- Raymond E. Pouliot, 89, of Pascoag, died June 13, 2012 at Bayberry Commons in Pascoag. He was the husband of Rolande T. (Lamoureux) Pouliot whom he married May 04, 1946.
Born in Blackstone, MA, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Mary A. (Therrien) Pouliot.
Mr. Pouliot worked as a floor covering expert for many years and as a custodian for the Burrillville School Department from which he retired. Raymond was an army veteran serving during World War II.

WOONSOCKET- Joseph J.B. Parenteau 83, formerly of Chester St., died Monday, June 11, in the Woonsocket Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Cecile (Gaudet) Parenteau.
He was born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Joseph and Sarah (Cardin) Parenteau.
Mr. Parenteau was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany, Post World War II as an MP. He was a concrete foreman for the former Val's Construction for thirty seven years retiring in 1990. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
