PAWTUCKET â€” Sunday marked the first time Bob Montgomery saw Ryan Lavarnway up close and in person. Studying the Pawtucket Red Sox catcher from the television booth in the press box located high above McCoy Stadium, Montgomery made good use of the monitor adjacent to him, particularly when tracking Lavarnwayâ€™s mitt motion as he received the ball from the pitcher.
WOONSOCKET â€” Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has mailed 198,000 letters to customers in the Greater Woonsocket area notifying them that the insurance company may no longer do business with Landmark Medical Center and the Rehab Hospital of Rhode Island as of Aug. 1 and Sept. 1, respectively.
That means BCBSRIâ€™s members could still receive treatment at those hospitals, but they would be responsible for dealing directly with Blue Cross for claims reimbursement and paying the hospital out of their own pocket.
Robert M. Andrew
BELLINGHAM- Robert M. Andrew, 81, of Bellingham, MA passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband for 46 years of Patricia B. (Bottomley) Andrew.
He was the loving father of the late Lynne R. Andrew. He leaves his cherished granddaughter, Julia P. Andrew of Bellingham, MA and his great-grandchildren, Elise, Elaina, and Jack.
Born in Fall River, MA on December 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Alfred and Juliette(Ledoux) Andrew.
Beatrice E. Guilmain
UXBRIDGE- Beatrice E. (Poirier) Guilmain, 84, of Uxbridge and formerly of Blackstone died Sat. July 7, 2012 in the St. Francis Rehab & Nursing Center, Worcester. She was the wife of the late Eugene L. Guilmain, Jr. who died in 2008.
Mrs. Guilmain was employed at the former Waucantuck Mill of Uxbridge and later for Hanora Spinning of Woonsocket.
She was born Aug. 4, 1927 in Uxbridge, the daughter of the late Victor and Evelyn (Snow) Poirier and was a graduate of Uxbridge High School.
Alice V. Richard
WOONSOCKET- Alice V. (Labonne) Richard, 85, died Thursday July 5, in the Friendly Home. She was the wife of the late Adrien S. Richard.
Mrs. Richard was born in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Louis and Loretta (Girard) Labonne.
Mrs. Labonne was a textile worker for Empire Woolen Mills for many years before retiring in 1972. After retiring, she pursued her interest in caring for horses in Blackstone.
Jane E. Devine
UXBRIDGE- Jane E. (DeStefano) Devine, 76, died July 6, 2012 at home. She was the wife of Thomas E. Devine of Uxbridge.
Born in Woonsocket, the daughter of the late Ercole and Agusta (DeAngelis) DeStefano, she was a North Smithfield resident for forty six years prior to moving to Uxbridge in 2010.
Mrs. Devine worked as an elementary school teacher in Canton, MA,, No. Smithfield and Woonsocket, retiring in 1999. She attended Green Mountain College and received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Boston University.
PAWTUCKET â€“ Clay Buchholz and Jacoby Ellsbury didnâ€™t gallop out of McCoy Stadium on white horses. Still, itâ€™s hard not to get all â€świld, wild west,â€ť sensing that the cavalry is heading toward Fenway Park â€“ and not a moment too soon.
PAWTUCKET â€” Police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of Darrell Johnson, 19, in connection with the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Joshua Burgo behind the Nathanael Greene Elementary School Friday morning.
Police said the victim was shot in the chest at around 2:58 a.m. He was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

BELLINGHAM â€” The Belling-ham Business Association (BBA) has announced this year's winners of two $1,500 scholarships. These scholarships are offered to Bellingham residents who are graduating from high school and will be going on to higher education.
One of the recipients, Maria Mendez, is a graduate of Bellingham High School and will be attending Mass Bay Community College in Wellesley, Mass. this fall to major in business.
BURRILLVILLE â€” The 28th annual Fishing Derby at Wallum Lake Rod and Gun Club took place June 9-10.
Fishing Derby Chairman Norm Fontaine, along with staff and friends from Seven Hills of Rhode Island â€” an affiliate of the Seven Hills Foundation â€” attended the Saturday portion of the event. Members from the WLRGCâ€™s Fishing Derby Committee and volunteer members assisted the 67 participants in demonstrating their fishing skills.
Hamburgers, hotdogs, soft drinks and chips donated by the club were served.
