WOONSOCKET — The alleged assailant in a stabbing that left a young woman in critical condition Tuesday night has been identified as Louis C. Callei, 23, of Woonsocket.
Callei was ordered held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions following his arraignment yesterday morning on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling house, possession of oxycodone and resisting arrest.
Ralph N. Belleville
WOONSOCKET- Ralph N. Belleville, 85, of Woonsocket, died Monday, January 24, 2011 in St. Antoine Residence. He was the husband of Marion E. (Nichols) Belleville. They were married for over sixty-two years.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Onesiphore and Winifred (Perreault) Belleville. He lived in Woonsocket for his entire life.

PROVIDENCE – For Ricky Ledo, it’s games like Providence College’s 83-68 vanquishing of No. 8 Villanova on Wednesday night that has the Providence native convinced he made the right call.
WOONSOCKET — If anything, the announcement that Rocco Baldelli is retiring after a seven-year pro career and eight months shy of his 30th birthday should be viewed as an outpouring of relief for the Woonsocket native.
What was Baldelli? A good player, who showed flashes of talent that bordered on the greatness, the modern day answer to Napoleon Lajoie and Gabby Hartnett, two Hall of Famers with firm ties to the Blackstone Valley.
This is truly the winter of our discontent when it comes to weather and high school sports schedules. The seemingly weekly snowstorms in Rhode Island have created a backlog of makeup games in all sports, none more so than in boys’ basketball, where a compressed schedule this season necessitated a natural three-game week even before Mother Nature threatened to turn the month of February into an NBA-like marathon for high school student/athletes.
Robert W. LaForest
WOONSOCKET- Robert W. LaForest, 81, passed away on January 18, 2011 at The Friendly Home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Cecile (Drouin) LaForest.
Born in Woonsocket on April 17, 1929, he was the son of the late Walter and Marie Anne (Rainville) LaForest.

PAWTUCKET — In a game of runs, it was Shea High that had the big one at the end, and with it, a hard-fought Division II crossover victory.
The Raiders rattled off 11 straight points to ignite a 21-8 run in the final 7:48 of their duel with Cumberland High on Tuesday night and come away with a 73-62 win on their home floor that gave them their fifth victory in their last six games.
BLACKSTONE — There was so much snow that Kevin Mahoney didn't notice the item missing from his driveway — at least not until he started to plow.
It was then that Mahoney realized the bell was gone — not just any bell, but a Hooper, a rare piece of 19th century metalsmithing forged into shape by a protege of Paul Revere.
Weighing around 700 pounds, the bronze bell had been severed from a secured length of heavy-duty, steel chain, perhaps with a pair of bolt cutters, around Dec. 16, says Mahoney, of 239 Elm St.
Therese R. Hickey
WOONSOCKET- Therese R. (Ayotte) Hickey 47, of Bernon St. died January 3, in Landmark Medical Center.
She was born in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Jeffrey and Jeannette (Deslauriers) Ayotte.
She was the mother of Matthew Hickey, and Rebecca Hickey. Besides her children she is survived by her fiance Romeo Beaudoin, two grandchildren, and six siblings; Marcel, Maurice, Jean, Arthur, Jeffrey, Leo and Blanche. She was also the sister of the late Roger, Real and James.
