It's on! Mount, Hendricken duel for state title again

March 8, 2012

WOONSOCKET --- This year has been a tale of two seasons for Mount St. Charles.
The first season was not a very good one by the program’s standards. Back-to-back losses to La Salle in early December and a 3-4 record in January did not sit well with the team’s loyal fan base, even though Mount was entering the season with one of its youngest teams in several seasons.

Villa Novans' Fugere is R.I. Gatorade Player of Year

March 8, 2012

WOONSOCKET — George Coderre sounded more like a proud father rather than a head coach upon being informed that Woonsocket High senior Kailey Fugere had been selected by Gatorade as the 2011-12 R.I. Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
“She’s always been an outstanding athlete,” noted Coderre on Thursday morning, “but to see her round out her game and see her adjust from year to year … she’s a quiet and unassuming kid and to see her take on more of a leadership role, that’s why she’s been a pleasure to coach.”

Courtney Kent's enjoying a superb swimming career

March 8, 2012

Naturally, it had something to do with her desire to achieve personal-best times – not to mention proving to herself she still was the Ocean State's fastest – but much more so to show her father, Michael, how much she had improved over the years.
