MARLBOROUGH- Sister Doris Pontbriand, a Sister of St. Anne, known in religion as Sister Marie Anne Elise, died suddenly Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the age of 83, at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlborough. She was in the 63rd year of religious life.
She was the daughter of Arsene and Elise (Vandal) Pontbriand of Manville, R.I.

MANVILLE- Gloria Y. Turcotte, 83, formerly of Sayles Hill Rd., North Smithfield, died Monday morning at The Holiday with her family at her side. She was the wife of the late Joseph L. Turcotte.
A proud lifelong resident of Manville and North Smithfield, she was a daughter of the late Henri and Yvette (Fournier) Raymond.
Mrs. Turcotte was employed by Almac's Supermarket at its former Park Square location in Woonsocket for over 34 years before retiring.

Born in Providence, he was the son of Claire (Howard) Hoerlein of North Providence and the late Frederick L. Hoerlein, Sr.

PASCOAG. Carol A. (Heath) Provencher, 60, of Wallum Lake Rd. entered into eternal life June 2, 2012 at RI Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Raymond Provencher.
She was born in Warwick, a daughter of the late Herbert and Barbara (O'Donnell) Heath. Mrs. Provencher was a devoted Mother and Grandmother. She lived in Warwick and Bristol for several years before moving to Pascoag.

New York Ave., Deland. Interment will follow the Funeral Mass at DeLand Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wed. June 13th; 5:00-until the 6:30 wake service at the Deland chapel of Lohman Funeral Homes.

PROVIDENCE — Denizens of Netroots Nation may have thought they were coming to a famously deep-blue state that has Democratic supermajorities in both chambers of its General Assembly for their 2012 get-together, but a panel of local activists gave them a sobering dose of bad news: While Rhode Island is heavily Democratic, it is not particularly liberal, or, in the current jargon, progressive.

PROVIDENCE — Immediately after the Davies Tech team bus arrived at the Rhode Island College diamond at approximately 4:30 p.m., Sunday, skipper Scott Cooper strode up the aluminum stands to the press box for a coin flip with Central High's mentor, Michelle Rawcliffe.
That toss would decide the home team for this Rhode Island Division III Tournament championship series' “rubber” tilt.
When Rawcliffe chose “tails” and won the flip, choosing to bat in the bottom half of each inning, Cooper silently said a prayer.
