WOONSOCKET – The city won't be getting any additional school funding from the state in the near future, at least not through legal action.
That was the outcome of a successful move by the state to block the city from winning a hearing on its school funding lawsuit in Superior Court.
Judge Nettie C. Vogel on Thursday issued a 31-page decision ruling in favor of the state's motion to dismiss the case filed by both the Woonsocket and Pawtucket school districts while noting earlier court decisions to the same effect.
CUMBERLAND – You don’t have to be a parent to know that children don’t get sick during business hours. And if they happen to, it isn’t until today’s busy parents come home from work that they invariably find out about it and start looking for medical attention.
And so Dr. Peter Yasigian was often needed in the office until seven or eight o’clock at night, tending to the usual afflictions of his pediatric caseload, from sore throats and sprains to coughs and croup.
There had to be a better way.

WOONSOCKET – Lorenzo Ajavon was a typical 17-year-old who liked listening to music and shooting hoops with his friends at Globe Park.
He had no track record with the police and no known history of drug involvement, but within hours of leaving his home at 372 Robinson St. Sunday he ended up in the Blackstone River, dead.
How and why are questions that now vex the police.
“It’s a mystery,” said Detective Sgt. Matt Ryan, spokesman for the Woonsocket Police Department. “This isn’t like anything I’ve every encountered before.”
