Darlene Ann Lang

BELLINGHAM- Darlene Ann Lang, age 63, of Bellingham, MA, died peacefully in her home on the morning of Friday, December 9th after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Darlene, one of seven girls, was born in Laconia, NH on October 14, 1948 to Ernest and Louise Daigneau. She attended Quimby High School in Sandwich, NH, and then graduated Inter-Lakes High School in Meredith, NH.

BLACKSTONE- Martha A. (Orlando) Rossi, formerly of Woonsocket, RI, living the last 4 years of her life in Blackstone, MA. passed away on Dec. 10, 2011 at the Milford Regional Medical Ctr., surrounded by her family.
She was the loving wife of the late Jerry Rossi.
Born Nov. 21, 1917, in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Saverio & Maria (Devita) Orlando.
She was the "Matriarch" of the remaining "Orlando Family".

WOONSOCKET- Michelle I. (Boiteau) Masterson, 61, of Woonsocket passed away on Friday, December 9, 2011 at Landmark Medical Center with family by her side.
She was the loving mother of Jennifer E. Masterson of Guyton, GA, Matthew J. Masterson of Woonsocket, Christopher S. Masterson and his wife Amaya of Orlando, FL and her cherished grandson Alexander C. Masterson.
Born in Woonsocket on February 27, 1950, she was the daughter of Edgar L. Boiteau, Sr. of Blackstone and the late Florence C. (Poirier) Boiteau.

WOONSOCKET- Eva V. Moyen 70, died Saturday at Coventry Health Center. She was the wife of the late Adelard Moyen Sr. Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Frances (Scopino) Daignault. Eva was a homemaker and foster mother, her greatest joy was caring for her children and foster children, of which she had many. Her door was always open for her many friends as well as any children that needed her.

BLACKSTONE- Debra C. (Barrette) Stearns, 53, of Blackstone, MA passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Rhode Island Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Alan Stearns for 14 years.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on May 29, 1958, she was the daughter of the late William and Jeannine (Belanger) Barrette.

Maurice E. Scanlon Sr. 65, of Sixth Ave. died Friday at Trinity Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Ellen M. (Wiberg) Scanlon.
Born in Franklin, MA he was a son of the late William and Marie (Morse) Scanlon.
Mr. Scanlon was a security guard for Tech Industries for many years. He was a US Navy Veteran.

State to hear about school deficit

WOONSOCKET — The School Department’s projected $2 million 2010-2010 budget deficit is expected to be discussed by city and state budget officials during a meeting at the state Department of Administration today.
The finding of a new city deficit resulted from an annual audit of municipal and school spending for the fiscal year ending June 30 and was aired last Thursday during a meeting of city and school officials at Harris Hall.

Lindy's Tavern is back and thriving

NORTH SMITHFIELD — When Ron Carter was an older teen-ager back in the late 1970s, he often would make the short trek from his home with his dad, Fred, to Lindy's Tavern in Forestdale just to enjoy a few beers and shoot some pool with pals.
It was quite the town hangout back then, a place where folks would go to imbibe, order a sandwich or watch the Red Sox or Bruins on the tiny TV above the bar; this was back when Boston's WSBK Ch. 38 televised the B's.

HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Mount falls to 1-2 after OT loss

WEST WARWICK – Mount St. Charles took unbeaten La Salle into overtime before dropping a 3-2 decision on Saturday night at the West Warwick Arena.
Sophomore Bryan Lemos netted the game-winner at the 3:09 mark of overtime.
Mount had led 2-1 on a goal by Brandon Borges early in the second period. La Salle, which had defeated Mount 3-1 in the season opener on Dec. 2, tied the game three minutes into the third period on a goal by Stephen Roccio when the Mounties had two players sitting in the penalty box.

Corinne Coia seeing early action for URI

KINGSTON – North Smithfield’s Corinne Coia has been thrown right into the fire by University of Rhode Island basketball coach Cathy Inglese.
The 6-foot-4 freshman has started six games already this season and is averaging 8.7 points per game, third on the team. The Rams are 1-10 this year after Saturday’s 72-67 overtime loss to Quinnipiac University. Coia netted a career-best 19 points in the setback.
