Rep. MacBeth reintroduces abortion bill

PROVIDENCE – In each of the last three years, Cumberland Rep. Karen MacBeth sponsored legislation that would require doctors to offer to show and explain fetal ultrasound images to women seeking abortions. The bills died with little media or public fanfare.
MacBeth has introduced the bill again, but this year pre-abortion ultrasounds have become a red-hot button nationwide controversy as state legislatures across the country have passed or are considering a variety of bills mandating the procedure in various forms

BELLINGHAM MA- Mrs. Mary J. (DiPietro) Caccavelli, 88, of Bellingham MA died Friday (March 30, 2012) at her residence after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Frank P. Caccavelli, who died in 1975.
Mrs. Caccavelli was born in Bellingham MA, the daughter of the late Domenico and the late Lucia (Volpe) DiPietro.

BLACKSTONE- Edward J. Tuite, 84, of Blackstone, passed away Wednesday March 28, 2012 with his beloved family by his side.
Edward's longtime sweetheart Florence G. (Brennan) Green passed away in 2002.
His extended family an son, John E. Green passed away in 2003, a daughter, Eleanor Stebbins passed away in 1989 and a granddaughter Terri-Anne Stebbins passed away in 2009. A brother Joseph also predeceased him.

GOODYEAR, AZ- Helen A. Lamothe 72, formerly of Woonsocket died March 24, 2012 in Goodyear, AZ., where she has been living since 2009.
Born in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Giovanni and Theresa (Mencarini) Barcolini. Helen was a purchasing manager for CVS for over twenty five years. She was a member of St. Theresa's Parish and taught CCD classes for many years. Helen was an avid bingo player and enjoyed going to Twin Rivers.

WEST MELBOURNE FLORIDA- Christie Petrides, 84, formerly of Woonsocket RI died February 6, 2012 at home. He was the beloved brother of Elise Petrides.
Born of immigrant Albanian parents (Sophie and Steve) on January 27, 1928 (at 510 East School Street, Woonsocket).
Chris excelled in physics and mathematics at Woonsocket High School.
Chris served in the US Army in the occupation of Japan in 1946. His Uncle Sam sent him to the University of Rhode Island where Chris graduated with a degree in electrical engineering.

Man arrested for attempted murder

WOONSOCKET — A city man was arrested at a North Smithfield motel Wednesday on an attempted murder charge after allegedly slashing two others in a bloody feud outside a convenience store earlier this week.
Alvin Huggins, 28, was taken into custody at Traveler’s Motor Lodge by members of the North Smithfield and Woonsocket police departments, said Detective Lt. Eugene Jalette. Police seized a steak knife and a blood-stained sneaker from his room at the motel, located at 1210 Eddie Dowling Highway.

Landmark/Blue Cross mediator identified

WOONSOCKET – A veteran Providence litigator has agreed to serve as mediator in attempts to resolve some vexing legal claims between Landmark Medical Center and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rhode Island that could affect the sale of the teetering hospital.
William Dolan III is general counsel and chief legal officer for Brown Rudnick LLC, a firm with more than 200 lawyers in five U.S. cities and two more in Europe.

Man hurt in fall from bridge

Rescue personnel prepare to take a man to Rhode Island Hospital after he reportedly jumped or fell from the Court Street Bridge Wednesday. Police Capt. Edward Lee said the incident occuring just before 5 p.m. remained under investigation. The man landed in the parking lot behind the Allen Street Condominiums between the Main Street bypass and the Blackstone River. Lee said the man was conscious at the scene while being assisted by rescue personnel, but did not have further information on his condition Wednesday evening.

School Committee fires Busby

WOONSOCKET — In a rare move to handle a personnel action in public session, the School Committee on Wednesday voted unanimously to terminate School Department Finance Director Stacey Busby after hearing a recommendation from School Superintendent Giovana Donoyan supporting the action.
The termination of Busby came after School Committee Chairwoman Anita McGuire-Forcier heard no motion from her peers for a move into closed session to consider the sole personnel matter on the evening's agenda.
