WOONSOCKET- Marcel L. "Mitch" Lanoue, 90, of Woonsocket passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Veterans Medical Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Blanche A. (Allaire) Lanoue.
Born in Milton, VT on August 10, 1921, he was the son of the late Valmore and Alvayana (Dexter) Lanoue.

WOONSOCKET- Louis R. Geer, Sr., 61, resident of Woonsocket, formerly of the state California, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket.
Born July 24, 1950 in Uxbridge, MA, he was the son of the late Ralph and Patricia (Wheeler) Geer.
Louis had worked for the New England Dry Wall Company as a carpenter and in his spare time, he was a passionate fisherman.

He was Born in Woonsocket son of the late Constance and Leon Champagne.
He resided in Florida for the last 9 years. He served in the Army and Marines
He was a graduate of Woonsocket High School
He is survived by his daughter Crystal Allen of VA., 2 sisters Christine Ahern of Florida, Karen Brien of Woonsocket and 1 brother Timmy Champagne of No. Smithfield.

WOONSOCKET- Paul Masnyk, 86, of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2012, at home, with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Rose (Jaryniak) Masnyk.
Born in 1925 in Poland, he was the son of the late Paul & Katarzyna (Bachurski) Masnyk. Mr. Masnyk came to this country in 1950 and settled in Woonsocket.
He was employed at Charlotte Foundry, Fairmount Foundry and 30 years at Crosby Valve & Gauge in Wrentham, MA. before retiring in 1995 to enjoy his hobby of gardening and growing roses.

Restaurateurs attack tax

CUMBERLAND — Roger Savini may have been boasting when he said he could drive a golf ball into Massachusetts from his Woonsocket restaurant, but the hyperbole made a point.
His restaurant is so close to both Bellingham and Blackstone that diners — and especially his lucrative banquet business — could easily bypass his Rathbun Street business to avoid the extra 2 percent tax Gov. Lincoln Chafee wants to tack onto restaurant meals and beverages.

Nasuti: We can't keep cutting youth programs

Woonsocket High School athletic director George Nasuti feels a common bond with his colleagues at other city schools in Rhode Island, in places like Pawtucket, Central Falls and Providence. He knows the budget restraints that ADs in those cities deal with, and can easily relate to the student-athletes and the economic realities many of them face during the school year.

WOONSOCKET- Normand O. Bourget 84, of Providence St., formerly of Zellwood, FL died Friday, February 10th at Philip Hulitar Home and Hospice Center. He was the husband of the late Nancy (Pellend) Bourget.
Born in Woonsocket January 13, 1928, he was a son of the late Omer and Annette (Rivard) Bourget.
He was a resident of Florida for thirty five years and was employed by the Orange County School District.
