BLACKSTONE- Rene "Bucky" L. Gauthier, 82, of Blackstone St., Blackstone, MA passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011 in Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Pearl V. (Plante) whom he married June 26, 1948.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Lionel and Leah (Breault) Gauthier.

WEST WARWICK- Vincent W. Cotnoir, age 85, formerly of Patrick Quinn Drive, West Warwick, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield. He was the husband of the late Victoria J. (Costantini) Cotnoir.
Born in Woonsocket, a son of the late Emile and Anna (Marks) Cotnoir, he lived in Blackstone, MA before moving to Warwick in 1971, and to West Warwick in 1978. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Cumberland claims District IV softball title

LINCOLN – Cumberland exacted revenge against Lincoln in the best way possible: with a victory in the District IV softball championship game.
After dropping a one-run decision to Lincoln last Friday, its lone loss of pool play, Cumberland used a five-run fifth inning to separate itself in Thursday’s title bout and held on for a 9-7 win at Sullivan Field.

Hurd Post 14 bests Navigant in 11

WOONSOCKET — After missing the first month of the season, Cumberland Post 14 outfielder Christian Spader was having a little trouble adjusting to the wooden bats that have been instituted into the American Legion baseball season this year.
But the Cumberland High product broke out of his mini slump in a big way on Thursday night against Navigant Credit Union Post 85. Spader collected four hits, including a game-winning two-run single in the top of the 11th inning as Post 14 outlasted Navigant, 2-0, in a three-hour marathon at Renaud Field.

Fed court stays Pleau transfer

WOONSOCKET — The custody battle for the man accused of murdering gas station manager David Main swerved toward uncharted legal territory yesterday as an appeals court postponed his transfer to federal authorities for arraignment on charges that carry the death penalty.
The U.S. Court of Appeals in Boston granted the motion of defense lawyers for Jason Wayne Pleau to stay his surrender to federal authorities for arraignment — originally set for today — on charges stemming from Main's robbery and shooting death on Sept. 20.

Man falls five stories

WOONSOCKET — An unidentified man plummeted from a fifth-floor window at the rear of 65 Main St. in Woonsocket Thursday at about 4:30 in the afternoon.
Woonsocket rescue personnel took the victim to Landmark Medical Center. The window is located at Superior Cheers All Stars gymnasium.

WOONSOCKET- Donna M. Menard, 55, of West St., Woonsocket, left us on Sunday, July 3, 2011 to be with Mom, Theresa (Gaudet) Menard in heaven.
She is survived by her devoted father, Anatol "Shorty" Menard of Woonsocket, her sister, Sandra Cavedon of Narragansett and her extended family at Seven Hills, RI, formerly known as Arc of Northern RI, where she spent most of her adult life.

TOLAR TEXAS- Aline Liana Marie Guilmain Luther, 76, passed away on June 29th in Tolar Texas with her dear family by her side after a lingering illness.
She was born in New Bedford, Mass. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Lavalle and Liana (Lavalle) Laberge. She was the wife of the late Normand Guilmain they were originally from Manville and Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
She leaves 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister in law.
She will be greatly missed.
She will be laid to rest in Texas.
