Clippers race past Panthers in Injury Fund tilt

CUMBERLAND – With a starting lineup comprised entirely of juniors, Cumberland head coach Gary Reedy believes that positive things are in store for his squad this winter.
The first step in the right direction took place Friday night with Cumberland disposing of Johnston, 69-60, in an Injury Fund non-league contest at the Wellness Center. Ben Bradley, one of those aforementioned 11th graders, led all scorers with 24 points while also contributing six rebounds and three steals.

Lajoie pleads guilty to role in Main murder

WOONSOCKET — Kelley M. Lajoie, 33, of Chicopee, Mass., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for her participation in the September 2010 robbery and murder of David D. Main, 49, of Woonsocket.
Main, a Shell station manager, was followed as he drove from the gas station to the Citizens Bank on Diamond Hill Road, then robbed and shot to death as he attempted to enter the bank to make a deposit.
Lajoie pleaded guilty to one count each of Hobbs Act conspiracy; aiding and abetting a Hobbs Act robbery; and use of a firearm during a federal crime of violence.

NONE FOR THE ROAD -- ‘Drinkers’ help police train for field sobriety tests

PROVIDENCE – Matt Oriani received the call from his friend, Lincoln Patrolman Kyle Wingate, at about 11:20 a.m., Wednesday.
That's when the officer asked him if he would participate in the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests instruction course, otherwise known as a live alcohol wet lab, being taught at the Providence Police Academy, located on Chad Brown Street.
Oriani acquiesced, and – less than 50 minutes later – he began drinking light beer.

BURRILLVILLE - DAngelo, Antonio, Tony, 95, of East Ave., Oakland, RI died Dec. 7, 2011 at the Overlook Nursing Home in Pascoag. He was the husband of the late Lucille R. (Couture) DAngelo.
Born in Esmond, son of the late Carmelo and Maryan (Campagna) Dangelo. Tony was also fondly known as The Chief to many who knew him because of his standing and respect within his extended family.

BURRILLVILLE - Kathleen H. (Pappandrea) Christiaen, 93, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 in St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. She was the wife of the late Albert Christiaen. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Calderon) Pappandrea.
Kathleen was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Frank M. Christiaen of Pascoag, two nieces, Joyce Raabe of CT and Constance Houser of NC and two nephews, Robert Lofgren of SC and Richard Lofgren of FL.

WOONSOCKET — Woonsocket High coach George Coderre feels he has an experienced squad that will be competitive in Division I this season.
Two of the players Coderre expects to run the show are four-year varsity members Michelle Brayboy and Kailey Fugere.
The talented seniors gave a preview of their effective 1-2 punch in Thursday’s non-league season-opener against Mount St. Charles Academy.

Cumberland men facing gun charges

CUMBERLAND — Two townsmen were arrested Monday and charged with altering the serial numbers on guns believed to have been stolen, police said.
One of the suspects was also charged with illegal possession of cocaine and a knife with a blade longer than three inches.
At around 4:30 Monday morning, police were summoned to Birchwood Drive to investigate a report of suspicious activity. Upon arrival, Sgt. John Cook located a car occupied by Corey Ridolfi, 24, and Jared Lemay, 18, each of whom has a last known address of 20 Green St., Cumberland.

FARMINGTON, MO - Lorraine (Briere) Bertrand, 67, of Farmington, MO., died Wednesday morning at Stockhoff Nursing Home in Frederick, MO.
Mrs. Bertrand worked as a caterer at Monday Morning Industries in Woonsocket, RI, before moving to Missouri.
She leaves behind her father, Aurele Briere; a daughter, Pamela (Bertrand) Woody and her daughters, Marissa Stanford, Abbigail Stanford, and Angela Stanford; a son, Marc Bertrand and his son, Adam Bertrand; two sisters, Paulette (Briere) Martin and Janet(Briere) Haczynski; and five brothers, John, Thomas, David, Raymond and William Briere.

MT. LAUREL, NJ - Jeannette Rose Levesque, 91, formerly of Mt. Laurel, NJ died, Tuesday, December 6, 2011 in Hamilton Continuing Care in Hamilton, NJ.
Born in Woonsocket, RI, Mrs. Levesque was a resident of Mt. Laurel for several years before moving to Hamilton.
Mrs. Levesque had served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Good Counsel R. C. Church in Moorestown, NJ, was a great seamstress and enjoyed cooking.
She was the wife of the late John E. Levesque Sr., mother of the late Richard Levesque, and sister of the late Albert Menard and Sylvia Mondor.
