Hilda Gonsalves

CENTRAL FALLS- Hilda Gonsalves, 91, formerly of Madeira Avenue, passed away Thursday at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation in Providence. She was the wife of the late John Gonsalves Sr.
Born in Insua, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Maria Pinto.
She resided in Central Falls for several years, previously residing in Valley Falls.
She leaves her son, John Gonsalves Jr. of Boston, MA.
The family would like to thank Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation for their compassionate care of Hilda.

MANVILLE- Robert J. Bouvier, 73, of Old River Rd. died September 5, 2011, in the Home & Hospice Care of R.I. Bob was the companion of 30 years to Linda Pendergast, of Manville.
Born in Whitinville, MA, son of the late Albert C. and Antoinette (Belanger) Bouvier.
Bob worked as a Machinist for D&B Machine in Cumberland, for several years.
He was a United States Navy Veteran.

WOONSOCKET- Cecile (Godbout) Richards, 77, of Diamond Hill Rd., passed away Monday, September 5, 2011 in Landmark Medical Center. She was the wife of Thomas D. Richards, III.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late William and Aurore (Curtis) Godbout.
Prior to retiring in 1996, Mrs. Richards worked as a molder for Polytop Corporation, No. Smithfield. She also worked at Tupperware Corporation for many years. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo, going to yard sales and spending time with family.

Lincoln schools tackle new initiatives

LINCOLN — When the town's six public schools opened Tuesday morning, they did so with teachers and administrators ready to tackle several initiatives the Lincoln School Administration team either adopted new this year or will continue to address.
In fact, some initiatives also have been adopted by the Cumberland and Woonsocket public school districts. Those three municipalities have formed a consortium to institute what's known as the Charles A. Dana Center Project, one based at the University of Texas at Austin.

Woonsocket drops field hockey opener to Classical

WOONSOCKET – During the final few minutes of the first half, Woonsocket High goalie Melinda Rice had to contend with a vicious attack by Classical.
But each shot, nearly a half dozen in that short span, Rice thwarted away with her stick or on a diving save.
That was just a sampling of the stellar effort by the talented senior in Thursday’s Division II clash at Barry Field. She finished her day’s work with 16 saves, most coming at close range.

Officiating crew grows to five with back judge

If Bruce Guindon and his high school football officiating brethren had their druthers, the installment of a fifth member to the longstanding four-man, on-field crew would have transpired years ago.
What was once a plea is now part of the Interscholastic League’s pigskin fabric. Beginning this season an additional pair of eyes will be called upon to aid specifically in the judgment of pass plays and blocks downfield, two areas that in the past have been tough calls a for group colloquially called “zebras” to accurately decipher.

Non-league schedule kicks off local football season

The two-a-days are history. So are the scrimmages and Injury Fund games.
This weekend, the regular season for high school football gets under way with non-league games scattered throughout the state.
Eight of the Blackstone Valley’s 11 teams kick off tonight, and the big games of the bunch will feature two-time Division II champion Woonsocket taking on East Providence at Pierce Field and former Thanksgiving Day rivals Shea and Lincoln playing each other at Lincoln‘s Ferguson Field.

WOONSOCKET- Lionel J. Harnois 86, of Pond St. passed away Thursday, September 8th surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Doris L. (Lacroix) Harnois whom he married 58 years ago. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Emilien and Marie (Deserres) Harnois.

NO. SMITHFIELD- Randy Walker Sr., 54, of Mechanic St., No. Smithfield passed away suddenly Tuesday afternoon at Milford Regional Hospital.
He is the son of the late William L. Walker and Edith (Bulris) Reynolds.
He is survived by two children Tabitha and Randy Walker, three sisters Sybil Walker, Linda Rothwell and Cindy Gingell, three brothers Chester, Mickey and Robert Walker, along with his many cousins, nieces and nephews.

WOONSOCKET- Victor P. Boucher, 78, of Grandview Ave, died September 6, 2011 in U. Mass Medical Center, Worcester. He was the husband of the late Carolyne (Bragg) Boucher.
Born in Pascoag, he was the son of the late Alcide and Aurore (Bergeron) Boucher.
Mr. Boucher was a Korean War Navy Veteran. He was the warehouse manager for the Wrentham Developmental Center for the past fifteen years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Veterans Association and a former member of Woonsocket Lodge of Elks #850.
