Monument rededicated

WOONSOCKET — William Glatki is 91 now and enjoying his retirement years in Forestdale. But Glatki took the time on Monday to travel over to Oak Hill Cemetery on Rathbun Street with a few friends to help rededicate a special local monument that bears his father's name.
Stephen Glatki is listed at the top of one of the columns of 90 names affixed to a large boulder that once stood at the former U.S. Rubber Company's Alice Mill plant off Fairmount Street honoring plant employees who went off to fight in World War I.

BELLINGHAM- Frederick P. "Fred" Beauchesne, 79, of Bellingham passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary B. "Beverly" (Tessitore) Beauchesne.
Born in Boston on July 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Emile and Madaline (Fortin) Beauchesne. He was the loving father of Frederick P. Beauchesne, Jr. and his wife Heather of Bellingham, MA and David Clemmer and his wife Faye of Taunton, MA. He leaves his cherished 8 grandchildren.

Primary may be election forecast

WOONSOCKET — Local voters did their job during Tuesday’s non-partisan primary for City Council, pruning the field of 15 candidates by one, and may also have provided an informal forecast for the November 8th election.
The small turnout of 2001 voters decided to drop perennial election candidate Michael E. Moniz from the list of contenders and also named City Council President John F. Ward the top vote getter despite his placement of last on the ballot list.

Middle schools win award for environmental reclamation

WOONSOCKET – Built on what was once a polluted, burned-out mill site overlooking the Blackstone River, the $80 million middle school campus has been named the winner of a prestigious national award recognizing the best environmental reclamation projects in the country.
The redevelopment trade publication Brownfield Journal chose the Hamlet Avenue campus as the 2011 winner of its “gold standard” award in the social impact category.

He was born in Blackstone, MA son of the late Wilfred and Daleda (Pelletier) Thibault.

PEORIA, ARIZONA- Rita Blais, 86, of Peoria, Arizona formerly of Pawtucket, RI and Central Falls, RI, passed away on October 8, 2011.
She was born on April 1, 1925 in Woonsocket, RI as one of 11 children to John and Mary (Elias) Joseph, and was married to Joseph O. Blais of Central Falls, RI, who preceded her in death in 1975.

PHILADELPHIA, PA- Beatrice (Flashner) Helfand, 95, of Philadelphia, formerly of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Woonsocket, RI, died Monday, October 10, 2011 in Philadelphia surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Her husband of 68 years, Henry Helfand, died in 2003.
Born in Stoughton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Isadore and Anna (Smith) Flashner.

BELLINGHAM, MA- Rene H. Gagne, 72, of Bellingham, MA passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Franklin Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was the beloved husband for 50 years of Lorraine (Guilbault) Gagne.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on November 28, 1938, he was the son of the late Henry and Beatrice (Aubin) Gagne. He was the brother of the late Annette Barr. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

WOONSOCKET- Donna M. Kwandranc, of Fourth Avenue died Saturday, October 8, 2011 in Rhode Island Hospital. A lifelong city resident, she was the daughter of Roland Ayotte of Woonsocket and Marguerite (Champagne) Dubois of Central Falls.
Beside her parents, she leaves five children including Aaron Kwandranc of Woonsocket and his two children. She also is survived by her two sisters, Suzanne Desjardin of Woonsocket and Valerie Egan of Burrillville. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Kwandranc, Jr.
