BLACKSTONE- Roman W. Gongoleski, 66 of Blackstone, MA passed away on Monday, January 23, 2012 at Milford Regional Medical Center.
Born in Woonsocket, RI on May 13, 1945, he was the son of the late Raymond and Wladyslawa (Ostrowski) Gongoleski.

CUMBERLAND- Louise M. Toupin, 90, passed away January 25, 2012 at Trinity Health & Rehabilitation, Woonsocket, RI under Odyssey Hospice Care.
Born August 20, 1921 in Woonsocket, RI, a widow of Ernest H. Toupin, she had been a Cumberland resident for over 60 years.
She was a daughter of the late Andrew and Corana Monteiro and a sister of William W. Monteiro of Bellingham, MA and the late Anna Garcia.

WOONSOCKET- Alma G. Gauvin 97, formerly of Mendon Rd., Woonsocket died Monday January 23rd at Bradford Ct. in Pascoag. She was the wife of the late Leo E. Gauvin.
Born in Mapleville, she was a daughter of the late Zenon and Virginie (Beaudoin) Ducharme.
Mrs. Gauvin was a spinner for several area worsted companies for over twenty years before retiring in 1970.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Alfred, Homer, Peter, J. Roderick, and Noe Louis Ducharme, Delia Plante, Lillian Letondress, and Celina Dora Robitaille.

WOONSOCKET- Rosemary A. (Salome) Beauregard, 71, of Privilege St., died Thursday, January, 26, 2012 in the Trinity Health and Rehabilitation Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of Normand A. Beauregard for 52 years. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice (Corey) Salome.
Mrs. Beauregard was a homemaker while raising her five children. She previously worked at McCarthy's Dry Goods, and Sears in Woonsocket. She especially enjoyed trips to Disney World, Christmas and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Lincoln ices Cumberland, 6-2

PAWTUCKET --- The fans who packed Lynch Arena on Thursday hoping to see a tight game between Lincoln and Cumberland that resembled the double-overtime thriller they played in the Toll Gate Holiday Tournament finals didn’t get their wish granted.
The Lions erupted for three goals in the second period and two in the first 5½ minutes of the third and held the Clippers to just 19 shots on net en route to a 6-2 win in the Kyle J. McLaughlin Scholarship Fund benefit hockey game.

Lincoln swimmers earn split

LINCOLN – Head coach Tom Diiorio doesn’t care too much about dual-meet records. When it comes to his Lincoln High boys’ and girls’ teams, his main concern is that his athletes are swimming well with a fair share of them qualifying for next month’s state championships.
Both those objectives are being met this season.

More troubles for D-III hockey teams

If the shaky futures of the Tolman and Woonsocket hockey teams didn’t need to receive any additional bad news, they indirectly got some at Monday night’s meeting of the R.I. Interscholastic League’s Principals’ Committee on Athletics in Providence.
Among the developments that transpired during this session was the matter of extending the periods in Division III, as well as girls’ hockey, from 12 to 15 minutes. This was put to a vote and narrowly (and surprisingly) approved by a 6-to-5 vote.

Sex offender fails again on address notification

WOONSOCKET – A convicted sex offender who is currently on probation for failure to notify authorities of a change of address was arrested Wednesday for the very same offense, which is a felony.
Jamie Britt, 33, was also free on bail from a pending felony assault charge lodged against him by the Smithfield police in December when he was taken into custody.

TRIVIAL PURSUITS -- Seniors test their trivia knowledge

LINCOLN – As Assistant Director of the Lincoln Senior Center, Michelle Lemire is often faced with scheduling activities to entertain and interest those who frequent it.
She admitted Tuesday afternoon she had worried how popular the “How Smart Are You Now? Senior Trivia” event would be.
Turns out, there was no need for concern.

UXBRIDGE- James K. Arnold, 67, of Uxbridge died Tues. Jan. 24, 2012 in the Brigham & Womens Hospital, Boston. He was the husband of Meredith S. (Davis) Arnold.
A longtime resident of Uxbridge, Mr. Arnold was employed at United Parcel Service in Shrewsbury and Ashland for more than 30 years.
He was born Jan. 5, 1945 in Atlanta, GA the son of the late James K. and Ora Lee (Archer) Arnold, Sr. and was a graduate of Hapeville High School, Hapeville, Georgia, Class of 1963.
Mr. Arnold served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
