LEXINGTON, MA- Sr. Alice Gagne, SGM (92) died on July 12, 2011 at Maristhill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Waltham, MA. She had been a Sisters of Charity of Montreal, "Grey Nuns" for 70 years.
Alice was born in St. Patrice, Quebec, Canada November 2, 1918 and later moved to Woonsocket, RI with her family, becoming an American Citizen in 1941. Her parents were Francois Gagne and Adeline (Dumont) Gagne both of St. Patrice.

DOUGLAS- Carol A. (O'Brien) Swenson, 59, of Douglas passed away on Wed., July 13 from ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease). Her husband of 27 yrs. David E. Swenson died Nov. 2, 2004.
She is survived by her daughter Kellie A. and her husband Joseph Cooke of Douglas, a granddaughter Audrey Cooke, her long time companion, George Loxley of Chepachet, RI and many close friends.
Born in Woonsocket on June 5, 1952 she was the daughter of John and Lillian (Lavoie) O'Brien and lived in Douglas many years.

MANVILLE- Rita M. Almeida 89, of Almeida Dr. died Friday July 8, 2011 at Oakland Grove Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Joaquim Almeida.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Clara (Rousseau) Dufault.
Mrs. Almeida was an assembler for AT Cross Co. for over twenty years. She spent many hours a day walking with her brother the late Eugene Dufault who past June 23, 2011. She also enjoyed knitting.

Providence man drowns in Slatersville Reservoir

NORTH SMITHFIELD – Divers recovered the body of a Providence man from the Slatersville Reservoir late Wednesday night after a search that lasted almost three hours.
The body of Johnny Oun, 22, was located at 10:06 p.m. near the base of the Upper Dam, not far from where he was last seen, said North Smithfield Fire Chief Joel Jillson.
Oun was reported missing by several friends with whom he had been swimming, said Police Capt. Bradley Aubin. Oun disappeared after they all jumped off the waterfall together and tried to swim back to shore.

Woonsocket's Rodriguez ready to climb back into ring

WOONSOCKET — Will the third bout in Reynaldo Rodriguez’s comeback be the charm?
It’s been more than seven years since Rodriguez experienced the thrill of victory, but the Woonsocket super middleweight will try to end that dry spell on Friday, July 29, when he appears on the undercard of Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc.’s “Heat Wave” show at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Rodriguez (5-2, 2 KOs) will contest Keith Kozlin (6-2, 4 KOs) of West Warwick in a six-round showdown that’s sure to grab the attention of the Rhode Island fight fans that will make the short trek to the casino.

While most kids his age were down at the beach soaking up some rays the past two days, Jamison Randall was at Potowomut Country Club playing with some of the top amateur golfers in Rhode Island.
And, after a shaky opening start, the recent Cumberland High grad and individual state champion has manufactured a pair of solid rounds at the 106th annual R.I. Amateur Championship.

Woonsocket city planner to resign

WOONSOCKET — City Planner Jane Talbot is trading her seat behind a desk at City Hall for one on a farm tractor in the Great Plains.
Talbot, who got married on July 4, is quitting her city job at the end of the month to join her husband, who runs a big cattle and grain spread in Oklahoma.
“I'm going to miss a lot of people around here,” she says. “This was my childhood home.”

'Black money' scam comes to North Smithfield

NORTH SMITHFIELD — It's called the “black money” scam, a popular fraud that has apparently snared a victim in North Smithfield.
North Smithfield Police Captain Bradley Aubin said a person who lives in town came to the police station on Wednesday to report that he had been victimized by the scam, in which the scammers show the victim several black pieces of paper which they claim is cash that has been dyed. The scammers tell the victim they need money for a special chemical solution to clean the bills and make them usable again.

WARWICK- QUINN, DOLORES (COTNOIR) 100 years young, passed away peacefully at her home on Melbourn Rd., Warwick on July 12 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie Ann (Paradis) Cotnoir. Del was the devoted wife of the late John F. Quinn, former Pawtucket mayor (1933-37).

Doris L'Heureux

MANVILLE- Doris L'Heureux, 87, of Manville, died Friday, July 8, at The Holiday Retirement Home. She was the wife of the late Roger N. L'Heureux who died in 2010.
Born in East Taunton, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Corlis and Lea (Gadoury) Patras.
She was raised in East Taunton and moved to Albion as a young woman. Upon her marriage she moved to Manville where she resided for over 60 years.
Mrs. L'Heureux was employed at American Tourister in Albion for many years until retiring in 1981.
