PAWTUCKET – Know those acceptance speeches an Oscar recipient gives upon being presented a solid gold statuette? The ones that begin with “I’d like to thank …”
Some speeches turn out sappy bordering on cringeworthy. Those falling in the melodramatic category tend to feature the winner crying to point where you can barely make out what’s being said. Bottom line? It’s about extolling credit where credit is due.

“We run a 2-2 split,” manager Arnie Beyeler explained. “They get their work, so that’s what’s important.”

WOONSOCKET — In this era of scant resources and shrinking government, being mayor of the state's seventh largest city isn't as glamorous as it used to be. But it looks like Mayor Leo T. Fontaine will get to keep the job for another two years without a fight, if he wants it.
And he does.
“I never really had any doubts about it,” said Fontaine. “I'm not going to be one of these guys that's around for 20 years, but clearly we've started some things I think need to be continued.”

WOONSOCKET- Petrin, Henry J., 90, passed away Friday, July 08, 2011 at the Woonsocket Health Center.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Henri and Emma (Richard) Petrin.
Mr. Petrin was employed at Dennison Paper Manufacturing, Framingham, MA. for 25 years before retiring in 1986. He was also an Army Veteran serving during WWII and was a Prisoner of War.
He was the brother of the late Lillian LePage.

Joseph E. Boulay

CUMBERLAND- Joseph E. Boulay, 84, of Cumberland passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011. He was the loving husband of Yvette (Laramee) Boulay. They were happily married for 60 years.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Origene and Diana (St. George) Boulay.
Mr. Boulay graduated from Cumberland High School and served in the US Marines during WWII. He worked as a Tool Maker at the former Amperex Co. for several years and worked at Texas Instruments for many years before retiring. He received his private pilot license in 1965 and was an avid fisherman.

MENDON- Augusta V. (Principessa) LaBastie, 93, of Mendon, died Saturday July 9, 2011 in the Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford. She was the wife of the late Austin A. LaBastie who died in 2003.
Mrs. LaBastie was employed as an LPN for 25 years at the former Milford Medical Home, presently known as Countryside Healthcare of Milford.
She was born Jan. 26, 1918 in Dedham, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Basilici) Principessa and was a graduate of the former Pondville Hospital Nursing School in Norfolk.

NORTH SMITHFIELD- Rose A. Lantagne, 80, of North Smithfield and formerly of Pawtucket died July 10, 2011 at St. Antoine Residence. She was the wife of the late Norman J. Lantagne.
She was born in Pawtucket and had lived in Pawtucket for most of her life. She was employed by A.T. Cross Co. until her retirement.

CUMBERLAND- Sophie B. Bis 98, of Fiske Ave. Cumberland passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2011 at Oak Hill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in South Bellingham, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Francis M. and Louisa I. (Nowak) Bis.
She was a graduate of Franklin high School and the former Hill College. She later served on the Board of Directors of that College. Sophie was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Woonsocket.

WOONSOCKET- Claire (Gianco) Cote, 93, formerly of Park Ave, Woonsocket died Wednesday, July 6 2011 in Overlook Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Pascoag. She was the wife of the late Rene P. Cote.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late John and Sophie (Starve) Gianco.
Mrs. Cote retired as a Dietary Aide for the St. Francis Home, Woonsocket in 2001.
