CAPE COD- Jean-Paul Lambert, formerly of Woonsocket, died Wednesday May 18, 2011 in the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, Massachusetts. He was the husband of Alice T. (Ouellet) Lambert for almost 70 years.
Born in St. Cuthbert, Canada, Jean-Paul was the son of the late Oscar and Marie (Turcotte) Lambert. He resided in Woonsocket most of his life, and relocated to Cape Cod two years ago.

LINCOLN- Lois B. (Vivier) Fortin, 74, of School Street, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of Gabriel Fortin. Mr. & Mrs. Fortin were to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in July.
Born in Valley Falls, a daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Slater) Vivier, she had lived in the Albion section of Lincoln for the past fifty years.
Mrs. Fortin was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church, Albion.

WOONSOCKET — This has been a nightmarish year for Mount St. Charles Academy, a team most folks predicted would again compete for the Division I-North title and embark on a long run in the state tournament.
There have been the injuries. Two of the Mounties’ top players -- ace pitcher Olivia Hendricks (foot injury) and third baseman Nicole Silva (illness) -- out indefinitely. The four losses they suffered in the last inning. The five straight games they stranded 10 or more runners on base.

WOONSOCKET — Prime Healthcare has now withdrawn its offer for Landmark Medical Center, making it the second bidder to walk away from the court-supervised sale of the troubled hospital in four days.
But this time there was a familiar ring to the Ontario, Calif., company's justification for pulling out — problems with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Rhode Island.

Raimondo talks to Chamber about state pension crisis

LINCOLN — Despite giving a dire assessment of the current condition of the state pension fund, General Treasurer Gina Raimondo told the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce Wednesday that there is reason for optimism that the state will bring the $9 billion problem under control.
Raimondo said that Gov. Lincoln Chafee, House Speaker Gordon Fox and Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed “are ready to line up and take on pension reform. They are talking about acting quickly, they are talking about a special session, they are talking about working with me to come out with concrete solutions.

Born in North Smithfield, she was the daughter of the late Stewart Tibbetts and Barbara (Pariseau) Degnan.
Lorraine worked as a CNA and dental assistant at Zambarano Hospital in Pascoag. She served in the RI Army National Guard.

ROYERSFORD, PA- John Joseph Martin, 54, of Royersford, husband of Susan M. (Serratore) Martin, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Phoenixville Hospital.
Born in Woonsocket, R.I., he was the son of Margaret (Valente) Martin of Woonsocket and the late John Martin.
John was an Operation Desert Shield War Navy veteran serving for 11 years.
Along with his wife of 25 years, he is survived by his son John Martin Jr. and one sister Pat Oliano of Yardley, PA.
