PROVIDENCE â€” Disgruntled with state government? Well, a new one takes over today.
Lincoln Chafee will take the oath of office as Rhode Islandâ€™s 74th governor, and the first since colonial times elected as an Independent, at noon on the south steps of the Statehouse.
Chafee is the 58th governor if you count from after a new constitution was adopted after the Dorr Rebellion in 1842.
Fritz A. Benz
SCITUATE- Benz, Fritz A., 82, of North Scituate, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Ann M. (Butler) Benz.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Edwin H. and Mary B. (Coleman) Benz.
William C. Perry, Sr.
NO. SMITHFIELD- William C. Perry, Sr., 72, of Victory Highway, finished his earthly duties on December 23, 2010 with his family at his side. He was the husband of Joan L. (Boudreau) Perry.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late William C. and Mary Elizabeth (Hedley) Perry.
Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by his son, William C. Perry, Jr. of Providence, his daughter Deborah Perry of No. Smithfield and his grandchildren, Katherine Fillengere of W. Warwick, William Charles Perry Miller and Alex Perry Miller of Steelton, PA.
WOONSOCKET- Mrs. Theresa (Nadeau) Warhol, 86, of MacArthur Rd., Woonsocket, died Jan. 2, 2011 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late John P. Warhol.
Born Jan. 24, 1924 in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Joseph and Yvonne (Cloutier) Nadeau.
Theresa worked as a spinner for the former of the Murray Worsted Mills in Woonsocket and was a longtime dedicated employee of the former McCarthy's Department Store in Woonsocket being one of the top sales clerk.
SO. YARMOUTH- Harriet (LeBlanc) Sutherland, of South Yarmouth, where she has lived since 1986, died Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at her home. She was 75.
Formerly of Woonsocket, RI, she was born in Dedham, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Ward) LeBlanc, and was a 1953 graduate of Wrentham High School.
CRANSTON- Lewis, Audrey, 89, of Cranston Street, died Friday at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the mother of Linda Labrecque of North Smithfield.
Born in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Eva (Howard) Hall. She had been a resident of Cranston for 40 years.
Even though her career was in the secretarial field, her real passion was cooking and watching the Red Sox.
She is also survived by her grandchildren; Kimberly Alves of North Smithfield and Wayne Labrecque of Waterbury, CT and her great grandchildren; Kyle and Kelsey Alves.
NORTH SMITHFIELD- Alice B. Labossiere-Sweeney, 94, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 in St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. She was the wife of the late John Sweeney and Henry Labossiere.
Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of Louis and Rosanna (Lamothe) Cabana. She was formerly of Cumberland and Pascoag.
Alice worked as a Senior Atttendant at Zambarano Hospital for many years. She was a member of the Royal Travelers and Christian Group of Woonsocket.
Joseph H. Allard
CHICOPEE- Joseph H. Allard, age 81, passed away on Dec. 30, 2010 at home surrounded by family. He was born on March 19, 1929 in Woonsocket, RI, a son of the late Alfred and Leontine (Desrosier) Allard.
Joseph worked as a service technician for Punderson Oil for many years before he retired. He was a former communicant of Assumption Church before becoming a communicant at Ste. Rose de Lima Church. Joseph was also a former member of the Chicopee Elks Lodge #1849. He is predeceased by his first wife, Gilberte (Maclure) Allard, who passed away in 1995.
Hermina E. Guerin
CUMBERLAND- Hermina E. Guerin, 95, of Cumberland, passed away Friday, December 31, 2010. She was the wife of the late Jean Paul Guerin.
Born in St. Guillaume, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Hilaire and Olivine (Crepeau) Drolet. Mrs. Guerin had lived most of her life in Cumberland Hill.
MILLVILLE- Robert H. Laflamme Sr., 68, of Main St. died peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Lois (Ravenelle- Remillard) Laflamme.
Born in Woonsocket, son of the late Robert and Helen (Pierce) Laflamme.
Mr. Laflamme worked as an Extruder for Teknor Color Company, for 22 years.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 11020, of Millville MA., obtaining the rank of third degree. He was member of the Millville Senior Club. He and his wife were former owners of the Four Corners II Cafe in Fairmount.
