PROVIDENCE - Big East Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco announced Friday that after several weeks of cordial and professional discussions, a definitive agreement has been reached that will enable a mutually-beneficial separation of some of the league’s current members and allow an orderly formation of a new conference by the seven basketball schools. The separation will become effective on July 1, 2013.
The agreement, which remains subject to formal Board approval, contemplates continued cooperation and playing opportunities between the conferences.

The evening saw everything from the No. 15 seed (Hendricken) sending the two seed (La Salle) packing to the No. 16 seed (West Warwick) give the tourney’s overall seed (Classical) a serious run for its money.

Within the treasure trove that is Baseball America’s Prospect Handbook lies a section that offers a sneak peak to a few years down the line. More specifically, the crystal ball the 2013 edition uses ponders what all 30 MLB clubs may look like come the 2016 season.
At a time when the Red Sox appear dead serious about integrating pieces from their farm system, it seems worth exploring Baseball America’s perception of the 2016 lineup.

One of the interesting subplots for the division tournaments in R.I. boys’ basketball is the use of neutral site high school gyms for Wednesday’s quarterfinals. The venues include North Providence, East Greenwich, East Providence, South Kingstown, Cumberland and Westerly.
Breaking things down further, all Division I schools are heading to Div. II and III spots. In Division II all four games are taking place on Div. I grounds, while the Division III games are being held in Div. II gyms.
PROVIDENCE -- Mount St. Charles junior Anthony Pasquarelli fashioned quite a Tuesday night for himself at the R.I. Class C Championships, held at the Providence Career & Technical High School’s field house.

That wasn’t all, as he anchored the runner-up 4 x 200-meter relay (which consisted of Andrew Van Winter, James Mullaney and Dan Weiss), which finished in 3:47.90.
