Mount St. Charles Baseball | Lataille shines as Mounties turn away Spartans

May 5, 2015

WOONSOCKET — Mount St. Charles took advantage of a fine mound performance from junior southpaw Alex Lataille to claim an interesting 3-1 Division II-North victory over Scituate High on Tuesday afternoon.

Lataille yielded only five hits with four walks, but whiffed a quintet to help the Mounties move to 10-1 in league play. At the plate, sophomore Joe Sanchioni went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored, while junior John Montani's two-run two-bagger in the third plated classmate Eric Abruzzi and Sanchioni to give the Mount a 3-0 cushion.

Pawtucket Red Sox | Intrepid reporter gets crash course in baseball time management

May 2, 2015

PAWTUCKET – Turns out I spent floods of nervous force over absolutely nothing.

Even though I had performed my official act as pitch-clock operator when I pushed the button that officially signaled that first pitch was exactly 60 minutes away – a mock cheer went up inside the McCoy Stadium press box once the countdown was underway – my palms were extra sweaty as the first game of the April 21 doubleheader between the PawSox and Buffalo Bisons drew closer and closer.

PAWTUCKET – Now comes the real test of Major League Baseball’s commitment to speeding up the game.

Starting with Friday’s Durham-Pawtucket contest and likewise at Triple-A and Double-A ballparks across the country, those in violation of letting the clock expire will be charged with a ball or strike – depending on the offending party. Whether or not these unprecedented efforts have a direct bearing on the game’s outcome will be closely monitored in the weeks and months ahead.

April 28, 2015
