PROVIDENCE – The Baltimore Ravens aren’t the only tough-as-nails outfit to invade Downtown Providence this weekend.
Saturday night saw a Marquette team that has built its reputation as a take-no-prisoners beast basically body slam Providence to the canvas. The punishment took its toll on the Friars, particularly in the second half when Ed Cooley’s club could not perform the simple act of putting the ball into the hoop.

BURRILLVILLE — A day earlier, La Salle Academy and host Burrillville HIgh had no problems in their opening-round games of the Burrillville Education Foundation Tournament.
It was a different story in the championship finals Saturday night.
The two Division I schools played a back-and-forth affair for three periods inside the Levy Rink. Unfortunately for the Broncos, the Rams managed to squeeze in two shots between the posts and skate off the ice with a hard-earned 2-0 win.

The weather has been a little different for recent Cumberland High grad and talented golfer Jamison Randall, a freshman at Old Dominion University in Virginia.
“It’s better than New England,” said Randall, via the phone on Saturday morning. “It’s much warmer. In fact, I’m playing golf (today).”

January 20, 2012

And with their season reaching its midway point, the Broncos could be well on their way to accomplishing both feats.
Entering this weekend, the Broncos resided atop the Eccleston ranks with a 6-4 mark that includes a five-game win streak and a 6-2 mark against their public-school peers.

Like their first two Division I meetings of the season, the Mounties and Rams engaged in a fast-paced, tight-checking duel that entertained a large gathering of fans on hand.
But like those first two games, La Salle was able to skate away with a close, hard-fought victory.
