McGair: Lars Anderson finally gets a change of scenery

July 31, 2012

It’s easy to get swept up with the sentiment that for Lars Anderson, Tuesday was Liberation Day.
The moment the Red Sox brought Adrian Gonzalez into the fold in December 2010, Anderson’s path to reach the big leagues with the club that drafted and developed him became infinitely harder. The deal with the Padres made Gonzalez a rich man while simultaneously poured cold water on the notion that Anderson was Boston’s first baseman of the future.

July 31, 2012

PAWTUCKET – It’s Sunday morning in the PawSox clubhouse, a time of day when players and coaches alike seek to shake the sleep out of their eyes in preparation for that day’s 1:05 first pitch.
Everyone has their own routine. For some, the crossword puzzle beckons. Others, a trip to the indoor hitting cage is imperative. Then there’s kicking back on the plush leather sofa to watch what the majority deems is acceptable on television. Sometimes it’s a movie; other times, like this past Sunday morn, the viewing is the Summer Olympics.

PawSox's Mock stays true to his spiritual side

July 31, 2012

PAWTUCKET — From Garrett Mock’s vantage point, his capacity – relief pitcher for the Pawtucket Red Sox – represents only the tip of iceberg regarding exactly who he is.
Mind you, Mock wasn’t always a devout Christian. The 29-year-old experienced a pair of self-described awakenings – one in 1998 and again in 2006 – that placed everything in proper context.
Nowadays when he takes the mound, Mock isn’t just seeking to get the opposition out; he aims to continue to stay true to his spiritual side that he first tapped as a teenager growing up in Houston, Texas.

American Legion Tournament, that after finishing the league campaign at a mediocre 11-11, Navigant Post 85 wasn't expected to do much, especially after suffering a disastrous 14-1 loss to North Providence Post 29 in the first game of a best-of-three preliminary set last Friday.
Navigant, however, responded with 6-3 and 9-0 victories over the Senators this past weekend, and gained a bit of confidence entering the double-elimination portion of the tourney.

Understand that veteran minor-league ballplayers have provisions written into their contracts that grant them the freedom to explore and seek opportunities elsewhere. These clauses – no doubt put in at the suggestion of one’s agent – are designed with the player’s protection in mind and can be triggered at different points throughout the season.
