WOONSOCKET— For Mount St. Charles first-year head coach Henry Coleman, this was one heck of an early Christmas gift, one he won’t forget.

He knew his Tuesday night opponent, Masters Regional Academy, had a phenomenal hoopster in senior Pablo Perez, and told his squad beforehand what it had to do to keep his wizardry in check.

The Mounties did – and didn’t.

WOONSOCKET– Bill Belisle’s high school coaching career has gone nowhere – and everywhere.

Remaining in the same city and at the same school where he graduated from in 1948, Belisle is now in his 40th season as coach of the Mount St. Charles boys’ hockey team.

During those four decades , Belisle succeeded in transforming the Mounties into a national power and one of the country’s most famous programs.

Cumberland Boys' Hockey | Clippers top Burrillville, sweep weekend homestand

WOONSOCKET – Paced by two goals off the stick of Brandon McMillen and a 20-save performance by goaltender Leo Lake, Cumberland topped Burrillville High, 4-2, on Friday night at Adelard Arena.

Twenty-four hours later, the Clippers notched a 4-0 shutout of North Kingstown, led by another 20-save night from Lake and goals from four different players.

Mount St. Charles Boys' Hockey | Hendricken hands Mounties 5-3 defeat at Thayer

WARWICK – Bishop Hendricken jumped out to an early lead on Mount St. Charles and didn’t look back en route to a 5-3 win at Thayer Arena Friday night.

The Hawks put in three goals in the first period, by Andrew Hopgood, Eric Edwards and Brandon Mitchell. The Mounties couldn’t keep pace despite two goals from senior Patrick Holmes, one unassisted and one from an assist by Justin D'Abrosca.

Also scoring were Jason Comeau and Brandon Waterman for Hendricken, and Joseph A. Sanchioni for Mount.

Davies Girls' Basketball | Kelly, Pats earn gratifying 44-32 win over Northmen

LINCOLN  –  Friday night marked the homecoming of Davies Tech senior tri-captain/forward Waleska Kelly, and she sure made the most of it.

Kelly, who had suffered a stroke while playing in a summer high school basketball league in July of 2013, had been granted a waiver by Rhode Island Interscholastic League officials to play a fifth year, and admitted being excited about returning to compete.

WOONSOCKET – Mount St. Charles coach Dave Belisle doesn’t want to sound the alarm, but also won’t deny the importance of Friday’s matchup with longtime rival Bishop Hendricken at Warwick’s Thayer Arena.

“They’re all big games, but December games are just as important,” said Belisle.

Keeping pace in head-to-head matchups will be essential for the Mounties to make noise in the Championship Division race. To date, Mount and Hendricken have each lost to currently unbeaten La Salle Academy.
