BRISTOL – Cumberland High senior standout Jack Bauer came ever-so-close to capturing a pair of individual events at the R.I. Division I Boys' Swimming Championships on Monday afternoon, but had to settle for one.

He was neither thrilled with nor upset about his outings at the Roger Williams University natatorium, but did admit he was looking forward to the winter season finale – that is, the state championships.

WOONSOCKET — After playing superbly in a 40-33 triumph at Burrillville on Friday night, Mount St. Charles just couldn't find the right answers as the Broncos rolled to a 56-39 Division III-North victory on Monday night.

Had the Mounties recorded the “back-to-back,” they would've climbed into a second-place tie behind league-leading Scituate, but instead fell to 8-8 in league action. Burrillville improved to 10-6.

CUMBERLAND  –  Cumberland High head coach Deb Engels had hoped her squad would turn around their collective fate – that is, three straight defeats – when it hosted rival Lincoln on Monday night.

The Lions had other ideas. Meg Chatowsky finished with a game-high 23 points to help the visitors claim a 47-45 Division II-North triumph at The Wellness Center.

The Lions jumped out to a 28-19 advantage at the break and withstood a furious second-half comeback to record their third win this season.

Kentucky came out and took care of business against one of the SEC cellar dwellers. The Wildcats opened up a 25 point lead before the half was over and then put in in cruise control for the second half. Willie Cauley-Stein led the balanced scoring effort by Kentucky with 14 points.

GIRL OF SUMMER: Nancy Belisle passes away, courage and devotion was an inspiration

Nancy Belisle touched a lot of lives – rivaling as many sporting events she attended throughout the years.

Married to a husband who spent his winters coaching hockey and his springs and summers on the baseball circuit, and a mother to four boys who were also heavily involved in youth and interscholastic sports, Nancy Belisle exemplified devotion. If there was a game involving a family member, the odds were pretty good that she would be in the stands and cheering them on to victory.

CUMBERLAND – Nancy Belisle passed away Friday evening, The Call has learned. Nancy was the wife of Mount St. Charles and Cumberland Little League Coach David Belisle, and the mother of their four boys.

Belisle was 50, and had battled cancer since 2013.

Nancy was seen supporting her husband and the Cumberland Little League team throughout their World Series run last summer despite her illness, and Dave Belisle cited her as his inspiration in life.
