The crazy part: It will occur at approximately 7 p.m., Sunday – at Rymanski Field in Burrillville.

PAWTUCKET – For Josh Maurer, the prestige surrounding the minors-to-majors PawSox radio booth tradition really dawned on him upon landing the coveted position before the 2014 season.

“When [Pawtucket Red Sox CEO] Mike Tamburro tells you that he wants you to work for him, that’s basically saying that you could be big-league caliber. He’s putting his confidence in you,” said Maurer. “For me, it was an affirmation that something like that could be possible.”

Commentary | McGair: MOVING VIOLATION: College athletes shouldn't be allowed to transfer whenever they want

July 15, 2015

A little of this, a little of that …

Honestly, PC basketball fans. A sincere effort was made to shed light on why promising 7-footer Paschal Chukwu elected to leave school.

Leo Redgate, who coached Chukwu at Connecticut’s Fairfield Prep, offered “we prefer to stay quiet and focus on Paschal.”

Dan Donnelly, Chukwu’s AAU coach with the Connecticut Basketball Club, also noted via text message, “he just wasn’t comfortable on campus and wanted a change of scenery.”

Obviously, the trail grew cold in a hurry.

American Legion Baseball | Loaded with experience, first-place Upper Deck Post 86/14 continues to surge

July 12, 2015

CUMBERLAND – Long before the R.I. American Legion Senior Division had even started, Upper Deck Baseball Academy Post 86/14 skipper Steve Reynolds Jr. and his assistants knew they had assembled a stellar squad of college freshmen and high school standouts.

They just hoped their roster could come together and produce at a level equal to or beyond their collective talent.

Reynolds nevertheless admits he's been floored at the squad's success so far this summer both within and outside the R.I. American Legion Senior Division slate, and he has dozens of reasons.

July 10, 2015

Pawtucket Red Sox | WELL-DESERVED HONOR: PawSox’ Bradley excited about heading to Triple-A All-Star Game

July 10, 2015

PAWTUCKET – Jackie Bradley Jr. spent the Fourth of July holiday returning to the Pawtucket Red Sox after a nine-day stint, his third of the season, with the parent club.

That designation came following fellow outfielder Shane Victorino's activation the day before.

Approximately 48 hours later, the 25-year-old center fielder received some news of consolation from Pawtucket skipper Kevin Boles. That is, he had been selected to represent the International League's best against the Pacific Coast League in the annual Triple-A All-Star Game, slated for Wednesday night in Omaha, Neb.

SUMMER EXCURSION: Former Lincoln High softball standout Mayer to play against Team USA

July 9, 2015

LINCOLN  –  When Lindsay Mayer’s phone buzzed with a text from her Fordham University softball coach shortly before noon on Thursday, June 18, the content astonished her.

The note from Bridget Orchard went something like this: “How would you like to represent a college All-Star team against Team USA in New Jersey?”

Naturally, she had to double-check the offer.

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY: Mike Roncarati’s love of physical training took him to top of the sports world

July 7, 2015

In his capacity as strength and conditioning coach for the Golden State Warriors, Mike Roncarati was privy to one of the best seats in the area to watch the best NBA team in 2014-15.

For roughly 2.5 hours each game night, the 27-year-old Roncarati considered himself no different than a paying customer. There’s just one major difference: They aren’t taking a seat behind the Golden State bench and next to the assistant coaches who are responsible for tracking plays.
