Bromley: 'Everyone does it' not an excuse for Little League cheating scandal

February 13, 2015

“Everyone cheats, so why pick on this team?”

This was the question, more or less, from the lineup of apologists who rose out of their rhetorical dugouts this week to defend the Jackie Robinson West team, after Little League Baseball announced the reigning U.S. champions were being stripped of that and every other honorific bestowed upon them during the 2014 season.

Ivey-Jones coached the Villa Novans for eight seasons before moving to take a coaching position with the Sky Chiefs last fall. His best season on the bench was the 2007-08 campaign when Woonsocket advanced to the Division I title game before falling to Bishop Hendricken in overtime.

Providence College basketball | McGair: Health should always come first for Ed Cooley

February 12, 2015

PROVIDENCE – The most valuable lesson in the aftermath of Ed Cooley’s health scare is that sometimes less is more.

All too often, we take our health for granted and then something unforeseen happens that challenges it. In the blink of an eye, we go from feeling bulletproof and invulnerable to a fragile place that also doubles as a wakeup call. We all want to live a quality life. It’s just ironic that our health seems to take on a greater sense of urgency only after we brush up against a scary situation.

Mount St. Charles Girls' Basketball | Mounties rally past Tigers, 40-38

February 5, 2015

WOONSOCKET – Mount St. Charles mentor Ray Leveille couldn’t have more blunt after his club stole a thrilling yet nail-biting, come-from-behind 40-38 triumph over Tolman High on Thursday night.

“We didn’t deserve to win that game,” he explained after his Mounties improved to 14-3 overall and 11-2 in Division III-North. “We missed too many free throws, we had too many turnovers; Tolman is a difficult matchup for us because of its size. It has a daunting front line, and that forces you to take outside jumpers.
