WOONSOCKET – Unlike past years, Rhode Island Interscholastic League officials have chosen to dispose of the typical Division I-North and South leagues, instead dividing those upper-echelon squads into I-A and I-B categories.

New Woonsocket High skipper Paul Murphy wondered about why the switch occurred, but has chosen to take the hand he was dealt as he prepares his Villa Novans for the upcoming campaign.

PAWTUCKET  –  Tolman High head coach Theo Murray has mixed emotions about his baseball team being realigned this spring, courtesy of Rhode Island Interscholastic League officials.

Instead of competing in a much bigger Division II-North, like it had the previous two campaigns, the Tigers now must shift to II-Central and face clubs in which they have minimal familiarity.

Outdoor Track | Cumberland boys wins four-man relay at K of C meet for first time since ‘79

PROVIDENCE – The last – indeed, the only – time that a Cumberland High boys

four-mile relay won a Knights of Columbus Division I race was back in 1979.

The then-Clipper foursome went 18:56.1 for the win.

On Saturday, 36 years later, Cumberland took the Division I title back to the Diamond Hill Road campus. The Clipper “long rangers’’ - Sean Laverty, Abdullah  Kaba, Jim Haupt and Dave Agudelo – clocked a school-record 18 minutes, 54.1 seconds over a team from Hendricken (19:07.3.).
