Junior lefty Alex Lataille earned the win with a four-hitter with two walks and five strikeouts in a complete-game performance.

North Smithfield Softball | Northmen break out the bats in 16-8 win over Davies in Division II playoffs

June 4, 2015

LINCOLN – North Smithfield High skipper Paul Mercier admitted he never knows how how his contingent will perform on a given day, and that inconsistency drives him crazy.

Will it be the one which can’t hit it a lick and makes embarrassing miscue after miscue? Or the one that rips the ball throughout the lineup, the pitchers do their jobs and the defense backs them up with superlative plays?

Mount St. Charles Softball | Mounties drop extra-inning heartbreaker to East Providence

June 3, 2015

EAST PROVIDENCE – Mount St. Charles head coach Cliff Matthews naturally was disappointed after his squad battled for 11 innings before suffering an emotion-packed 10-9 loss to East Providence on Wednesday afternoon/evening.

After all, a win in this R.I. Division I Tournament prelim would’ve pushed the Mounties into the double-elimination phase of the event. Instead, the Townies claimed that berth after tying it at 9-9 with a run in the back half of the 10th, then clinching it in the 11th.

North Smithfield Boys Volleyball | Northmen sweep West Warwick to earn spot in Div. II finals

June 2, 2015

PROVIDENCE — By the time the No. 2 West Warwick volleyball team used its first timeout Tuesday night, it became pretty clear which team was going to make its first trip to the Division II final.

Undefeated top-seed North Smithfield took advantage of the Wizards’ biggest deficiency this season – passing – to score 13 of the first 18 points in the Division II semifinals at Brown’s Pizzitola Center.

Pawtucket Red Sox | McGair: PawSox in dire need of offensive injection

June 2, 2015

Like the sound produced when nails scratch a chalkboard, the PawSox offense has been far from harmonious.

That’s not news to anyone who has followed this team closely; Sunday’s 5-1 loss to Louisville marked the 25th time in 51 games that Pawtucket had scored three or fewer runs in a game.

Mount St. Charles Boys Basketball | MSC to host new summer league for northern R.I. high-school hoopsters

June 1, 2015

WOONSOCKET – Mount St. Charles boys’ basketball head coach Henry Coleman knew exactly what the situation called for upon learning that the outdoor courts at Cumberland’s Tucker Field were no longer available for an area high school boys’ summer league.

Mount St. Charles Boys Volleyball | South Kingstown's front line proves too much for MSC in Division I semifinals

June 1, 2015

PROVIDENCE – Mount St. Charles Academy won the pre-game crowd support contest on Monday night at the Pizzitola Center. Mountie fans easily drowned out the outnumbered South Kingstown crowd during lineup introductions for this Division I semifinal playoff matchup.

Burrillville-North Smithfield Boys' Lacrosse | Broncos drop 7-6 heartbreaker to Bulldogs in D.III title game

May 31, 2015

PROVIDENCE  –  Nick Koprusak, senior quad-captain of the Burrillville/North Smithfield Co-op squad, had just played his heart out at Brown University’s Stevenson Field early Sunday afternoon, but he really couldn’t come to grips with the way his team’s season had ended.

He had expected more, especially after playing such a key role in his Broncos’ capture of the Division I/Eccleston League state championship in ice hockey almost two months to the day before.

May 31, 2015

PROVIDENCE  –  Cumberland High senior goalkeeper Mike Stock believed he and his teammates could pull off an upset of top-ranked Prout School in the R.I. Division II Lacrosse Tournament championship final at Brown University’s Stevenson Field on Sunday afternoon.
