Woonsocket boys' soccer | Villa Novans enjoying successful season, upset unbeaten Davies

October 17, 2014

WOONSOCKET  –  It was easy to tell there was a lot at stake when Woonsocket High “entertained” Davies Tech in a battle featuring Division III’s top two squads, considering all the jersey-tugging, sliding tackles, hard liners off defenders’ mid-sections and coaches hollering instructions throughout.

That explained the physicality and aggressiveness the two opponents displayed in their efforts to gain supremacy.

WOONSOCKET -- As always after a Woonsocket High game, cheerleaders and volunteer moms set up a buffet table complete with pasta, pizza and other goodies for their players and coaches to gobble.

When the Villa Novans took a considerable amount of time – perhaps 20 minutes – to finally file out of the Barry Field locker rooms and offices, one questioned, “Where are they? The food’s getting cold.”

An instant later, a trainer walked out of the closed door and provided the answer: “They’re still being yelled at.”
