NORWICH- Helene J. Harnois, 82 of Norwich, died in the comfort of her family Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Villa Maria Nursing & Rehabilitation Community in Plainfield, CT.
Helene was born in Woonsocket, RI on October 17, 1928, daughter of the late Joseph Petrin and Emma Benoit Petrin Caron. She was the beloved wife of Normand M. Harnois with whom she celebrated 62 years of marriage on July 2, 2010.
Helene was devoted to the care and raising of her family. She then returned to work in the medical field eventually retiring from The William W. Backus Hospital in 1989 after 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, sewing, gardening and spending time with her family. Helene was a gentle person who had a great enthusiasm for life and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Plainfield Seniors Chorus for many years.
She leaves behind her four children, Charles R. Harnois and his wife Jean of Moosup, Diane H.Woods and her husband Gordon of Smithfield, ME, Marc J. Harnois of Storrs and Lize-Anne Stewart and her husband David of Hanover, and two grandsons: Cameron Stewart and Dane Stewart also of Hanover. She is survived by a sister-in-law Theresa Petrin of Albion, RI and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Theodore Petrin, Fernand Petrin, Dr. John B. Petrin and, four sisters: Theodora Cloutier, Claire Lechman, Lillian Tebo and Therese Allaire Pallazini.
There will be a memorial service Friday, October 29, 2010 at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Norwich, CT at 10:00 AM. There are no visiting hours. Burial will be at a later date in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Holy Family Motherhouse, 54 West Main Street, Baltic, CT 06330-0691
