UXBRIDGE- Stanley J. Oleksyk, 86, of 185 Oak St., a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, died Tues. Oct. 26 after an illness.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Jennie T. (Shipala) Oleksyk; his daughter Jane Anne Oleksyk of Uxbridge; 2 sons Richard S. Oleksyk and his wife Janet of Kirtland, Ohio and Joseph J. and his wife Kathy Oleksyk of Canton Ohio; 4 sisters Mary Bochniak, Sophie Oleksyk and Anne Gaskell of Uxbridge and Jennie Wolanski of Staunton, VA; 2 grandchildren Jonathan E. and his wife Bethany Oleksyk and Kristine M. Oleksyk; and many nephews and nieces. He was brother of the late Walter J. Oleksyk, Frank J. Oleksyk, Helen Deveries and Noella Brothers.
Mr. Oleksyk worked as a foreman for the former Jessie F. White Co. in Mendon for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He previously worked for the former Uxbridge Worsted Co., also as a foreman until the firm closed in 1959. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a member of Charles A. Rice American Legion, the Polish American Social and Civic Club, the Polish American Veterans and St. Mary's Church.
born Oct. 7, 1924 in Uxbridge, Stanley was the son of Joseph and Agnes (Knapik) Oleksyk and lived here most of his life. He was a graduate of Uxbridge High School, Class of 1942 where he captained their Blackstone Valley League Championship team in basketball. Always an outdoorsman he was an avid hunter since he was 10 years old. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, sports, and visits with his friends.
His funeral will be held Sat. Oct. 30 from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 71 Mendon St. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Fri. Oct. 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
