Arrests for disorderly conduct at casino E-mail
Tuesday, 01 January 2008

By JON BAKER

LINCOLN  ---  What should have been an enjoyable Sunday night playing the slots at Twin River was anything but for two Taunton women.

Police arrested Kimberly Ann Young, 45, and April Lima, 42, for disorderly conduct at the casino at about 8:30 p.m., Sunday, said Deputy Chief Brian Sullivan.

Apparently, Twin River security personnel called detail officers for a disturbance on the first floor.

“When officers arrived, there were the two females arguing with a male and female, and security finally separated them,” Sullivan said. “Those females continued yelling and screaming at the other pair, and insulting them about not being able to speak English.

“They were asked to quiet down and show some respect, but they continued their insults, so security officials asked them to cash out and leave,” he added. “While they were being escorted to the cash-out windows, they began yelling and insulting the police officers, including (patrolmen) Ryan Laboissonniere and Kevin Marcoux. Up to that point, our officers had been using discretion, trying to quiet everything down.”

When asked to leave the premises through the closest door, Young and Lima refused and tried to re-enter the casino. At that point, while still cussing, they were placed under arrest for disorderly conduct.

Lima also was charged with resisting arrest.

The duo were arraigned later Sunday night before Justice of the Peace Robert Iuliano, then released on $100 cash bail because they reside outside of Rhode Island.

“When an officer asks someone to take it easy, the best thing to do is follow instructions,” Sullivan said. “They were asked to leave the facility, and they had he opportunity to just call it a night and go home. Those women just didn’t listen.”

Earlier Sunday, police arrested Jose Antonio Villefane, 30, of 85 Lonsdale-Main St., on a pair of bench warrants, one for shoplifting at a Warwick store and the other obstruction of a police officer in Central Falls.

It all started just after 9 a.m., when a female living on Lonsdale-Main Street notified police that she had been assaulted by the suspect, who then walked down that thoroughfare toward Cumberland. Patrolmen Marcoux, Casey Free and Edward Krawetz responded to the call.

“There had been no relation between them, except that Villefane was a friend of her boyfriend,” Sullivan said. “We located the suspect and ran a routine check on him, and it came back that he had the two bench warrants for his arrest. He later was turned over to the ACI.

“If we hadn’t got that call from that woman to let us know, he’d probably still be walking,” he added.
