By SANDY McGEE WOONSOCKET — The “City on the Move” is quickly becoming a city of movies as another picture of the silver screen began its work Monday.
It was lights, camera and action on Monday morning at the intersection of High and Arnold Street as filming continued on the new movie “Tell-Tale,” a Poe Brothers Production. Based on Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart,” the film is produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, producers of “Gladiator” and “Top Gun,” and executive produced by Matthew Chausse and Michael Ellenberg, among others. Chausse is a native of Rhode Island. The film stars actor Josh Lucas, who is also known for his roles in the 2006 remake of “Poseidon” and the 2006 movie “Glory Road.” He has also appeared in the films “Secondhand Lions,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” “A Beautiful Mind,” “American Psycho” and others. “Tell-Tale” also stars Emmy winning veteran actor Brian Cox and British theatre actress Lena Headey, who also plays the leading role of Sarah Connor in FOX television’s “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” “Tell-Tale” is the story of a man whose newly transplanted heart leads him on a dangerous journey to find who murdered its donor. The scene on Monday involved Lucas’ character driving in the rain. A blue Volvo rode on a flatbed truck as it drove down High Street while a movie camera, also on the truck, filmed the car and Lucas inside. Maria Montanev, who only speaks a little English, watched Monday’s filming from her home on Arnold Street. Fellow movie watcher, Carlos G. Ortiz, 22, of Woonsocket, translated for Montanev on Monday. “She says it’s something nice for the city,” said Ortiz. “She prays to God that everything goes well in the movie.” Ortiz said he has never witnessed a movie being filmed. “I think it’s awesome,” he said. “It’s my first time watching them film a movie.” “To film in Woonsocket is excellent,” said another movie spectator, Renee Rapko of North Smithfield. “The amount of wires is amazing.” Filming is expected to continue in the city on Tuesday. The movie has also been filmed at sites in Burrillville and Providence. Production is expected to continue through April. “We are extremely excited to have such a respected team of filmmakers here in Rhode Island,” said Steven Feinberg, executive director of the Rhode Island Film and TV Office. “It will enrich opportunities for our local crew base and talent pool while showcasing our unique locations to viewers across the globe.” The Blackstone Valley has been the recent site of several movie productions. A few weeks ago, downtown Woonsocket was the backdrop for the filming of “Hachiko: A Dog’s Story,” which starred Richard Gere. The Showtime series “Brotherhood” and the independent film “Tanner Hall,” which is still in production, have also been filmed this past year in the Blackstone Valley. The Rhode Island Film and TV Office is a division of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. For details, visit www.film.ri.gov.
