WOONSOCKET — An 18-year-old city man faces charges of possession of a weapon other than a firearm and possession of marijuana, a first offense, after he was located with a large knife in the North Main Street area at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police stopped Daniel J. Spann of 176 Sayles St. as he walking through the area following a reported armed robbery at the Walgreens store on Clinton Street with two other subjects.
Spann was seen wearing clothing matching the description of a subject reported to have just robbed the store after showing a large knife, police said.
During a check at the North Main Street location Spann told police he was carrying a knife in his pocket. A 12-inch-long knife with an 8-inch-long blade was confiscated from his clothing by Patrolman Michael G. Villiard and other responding patrol officers, police said.
Villard also allegedly located a bag containing marijuana on the suspect and seized that contraband as well, police said.
Spann was not identified as the person involved in the robbery of the nearby store, police said.  He was processed at the station on the charge of carrying a concealed weapon and the marijuana violation and held for arraignment in District Court, Providence, police said.
