By JOSEPH FITZGERALD MILLVILLE — Voters head to the polls Monday to decide two contests on the annual town election ballot — a three-way race for two seats on the Board of Selectmen and a two-way race for an unexpired Blackstone seat on the Blackstone-Millville Regional School Committee.
Polls at the Municipal Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Incumbent Selectwoman Karin L. Furno, who was elected to fill an unexpired seat on the five-member Board of Selectmen last year, is one of three candidates seeking the two three-year seats up for grabs in Monday’s election. The two other candidates are political newcomer Jackie Wheeler of Adelard Court and John Laura of Grove Street, who ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the board last year. Incumbent Selectwoman Diane O. McCutcheon decided not to seek re-election this year. Members of the five-member Board of Selectmen are elected for staggered three-year terms. The terms of Selectmen Paul J. Savage and Thomas Petrowicz’s terms expire next year, and Selectman Charles G. Poulin’s term expires in 2010. Millville voters will also decide a two-way race for the Blackstone-Millville Regional School Committee seat vacated by Robert Kluchevitz. Vying for the Blackstone seat set to expired in 2010 are Peter J. Olson, Catherine A. Frend and Michael J. Buckley, a former member of the regional school committee. Chuck Singleton is a write-in candidate for the Millville seat on the Blackstone-Millville Regional School Committee, which was vacated by former School Committewoman Joanne Forbes. The ballot also features one three-year term on the Board of Health; one five-year term on the Planning Board; and the three-year position of highway surveyor, currently held by longtime Highway Surveyor John F. Dean, who is seeking a seventh term. Also on the ballot is a three-year seat and one-year seat for Trustee of Soldiers/Veterans Memorial Park (veteran); one three-year term and one two-year unexpired term on the Library Board of Trustees; and one three-year position of tree warden. |
