By SANDY McGEE BLACKSTONE — Police are advising residents to lock their car doors after a string of motor vehicle larcenies Wednesday in the Ascension Street area.
Residents of Ascension Street and surrounding roads awoke Thursday morning to discover that someone had rummaged through their parked, unlocked vehicles during the night. At least nine individuals, including seven who live on Ascension Street, reported vehicle tampering to police. Police also received two other calls reporting that vehicles had been gone through outside a house on Federal Street and another on Hill Street. Police received the first larceny report Thursday around 5:48 a.m. The victim reported that someone rummaged through his truck and stole an iPod, phone charger and less than $10 in change, according to police reports. Five more accounts of vehicle rummaging were reported to police Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:35 a.m. According to police, not all of the owners discovered that items had been stolen, but all of the vehicles displayed evidence of having been searched. Items reported stolen included a Calvin Klein jacket, a work bag, another iPod and a handful of quarters. Police later received another three reports, in which someone had apparently stolen $3 to $4 in loose change and the faceplate of a car radio. There were no witnesses to the burglaries, police said. All of the vehicles were unlocked at the time they were entered, police said. Police are asking residents to lock their cars in the wake of these incidents. An investigation is ongoing. No suspects have been arrested. |
