WOONSOCKET — A Burrillville man was arrested Wednesday in the brutal beating of a city man who remains hospitalized after the weekend attack. Oscar G. Dupre, 49, of 590 Mt. Pleasant Road, was charged with one count of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon — his fists.
Police said Dupre assaulted John R. Lanoue, 46, of 515 East School St. A passerby found Lanoue unconscious on a North Main Street sidewalk shortly after 6 a.m. Sunday. Bleeding from the ear and nose, but unresponsive, Lanoue was taken to Landmark Medical Center and later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital. Capt. Walter Warot said Lanoue remains hospitalized, but he declined to say whether police have been able to question him.
“He’s improving,” Warot said of Lanoue’s condition.
Witnesses told police that had seen Lanoue get into an argument with several men at a bar on North Main Street shortly before the assault, but that he walked away, apparently unharmed.
