Richard Fontaine
WOONSOCKET - Richard Fontaine of Rhodes Ave., Woonsocket, died suddenly on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the devoted husband of Isabelle E. Fontaine whom he married September 7, 1957. Born July 2, 1936 in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late George and Rose Alma (Fleurant) Fontaine.
He was a lifelong city resident and Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Church, Woonsocket. Mr. Fontaine was employed fifty years at the Woonsocket Call, retiring in 2001. He had been a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council, Woonsocket 113, a member of the Par-X Club and the President and life member of the American Federation of Musicians, local 262. He taught saxophone and clarinet and performed with many area big bands. Richard actively participated in the Woonsocket Senior's quoits, bocce and bowling leagues. He enjoyed taking long walks with the companionship of his dog.
Besides his wife, his family includes his six children, Roger R. Fontaine and his wife Diane of No. Smithfield, Rene G. Fontaine and his wife Linda of Cumberland, Marc S. Fontaine of Mapleville, Celeste Baillargeon and her husband Eugene of No. Smithfield, City Council President Leo T. Fontaine and his wife Luz Maria and Neal R. Fontaine all of Woonsocket. He was predeceased by his son Guy P. Fontaine. He has six granddaughters and two great grandsons. He was also the brother of Robert, Francis and Raymond Fontaine, Helen Fleury, Constance Beane, the late Rita Langlois and Claire Belisle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 30, 2008, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Bellingham, MA. Calling hours are Sunday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Church, 414 Olo Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895.
