NORTH SMITHFIELD — Police were called to a five-vehicle accident on Route 146 southbound near the Hilltop Motel Tuesday with at least one person suffering possible neck and back injuries.
The call came to police at 2:45 p.m. as a possible disabled motor vehicle and responding officers found five vehicles to have been involved in the accident between West Acres Exchange and the Sayles Hill Road intersection. Another car, not involved in the accident, was found disabled nearby. Rhode Island State Police responded the scene to handle the highway accident and were assisted by local officers in controlling traffic, police said. North Smithfield Rescue personnel were called to the scene to assist those involved in the accident and transported one of the motorists to the hospital for what were believed to be minor injuries, according to fire officials. All the vehicles were removed from the location a short time later, police said. |
