By JIM BARON With most precincts reporting, as they say on election night, almost all of the candidates who declared for General Assembly seats two weeks ago have returned the nomination papers that will allow them a spot on the Sept. 9 primary ballot or the Nov. 4 general election.
That is, they get the spots after being certified as having a sufficient number of signatures by their local boards of canvassers, The Pawtucket Board of Canvassers, however, refused to provide the list of names of candidates who had submitted nomination papers. They referred a reporter to the secretary of state’s Web site, which lists information on each candidate once it is received from the boards of canvassers. As of press time Friday, that Web site showed no reports of any candidates for Pawtucket seats returning nomination papers. Even though the incumbents in most of the seats are running unopposed, there was no way to tell on Friday whether they made the deadline for filing their papers. Attempts to reach Registrar Kenneth McGill late on Friday were unsuccessful. Local canvassing boards have until next Thursday to verify the signatures on candidates’ nomination papers. Here is the rundown of cities and towns in the area: Cumberland One of the five candidates who declared for the District 52 House seat being vacated by Rep. Richard Singleton, Patrick J.
