GLOCESTER — With students scheduled to return to school Monday, the Glocester Teacher's Union, which represents teachers in West Glocester and Fogarty Memorial Elementary schools, has still not reached a contract agreement with the School Department.
Whether or not those 60 or so teachers return to the classroom Monday or take any job action is uncertain because no one on either side of the negotiations has been willing to comment on the talks. The two sides met last week and a mediator has still not been requested. Both the union and administration have agreed they are not going to discuss publicly the particulars of negotiations at this point. The union's contract expired June 30. Three years ago, the teachers engaged in a one-day work stoppage before an agreement was eventually reached. The one day they did not report to school was scheduled as a professional day and did not affect students. There are other districts in the area without updated contracts. They include Bristol-Warren, Burrillville, Johnston, Little Compton, and Tiverton. |
