By RUSS OLIVO WOONSOCKET — One of two men arrested in connection with a double shooting that left two others injured is facing new charges.
Armand N. Dauphinais, 22, of Providence Street, was charged Tuesday with robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of conspiracy. Dauphinais was arrested on the night of the incident, charged with obstructing, and later released. He is now held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions, Cranston, pending a review hearing on Sept. 24. Lawrence E. Wright, 21, the alleged triggerman, is also held without bail at the ACI on the same charges. He was arrested in Central Falls Tuesday after eluding police for nearly two weeks. Police say they are seeking at least one other person in connection with the shooting of two men, 28 and 33, following a fight that began outside a Diamond Hill Road convenience store on Sept. 1. Police say the victims, armed with baseball bats, confronted Wright and another man in the parking lot of Quik Mart when a fight broke out. Wright allegedly shot one of the other men, prompting a motor vehicle chase to the Blackstone line, about a quarter mile away. See CHARGES, Page A-2 The chase ended when one of the wounded men and his companion, riding in a truck, rammed the rear end of a car in which Wright, Dauphinais and several other men were riding. That’s when the companion of the wounded man got out of the truck, approached the car on foot and he, too, was shot. The victims were initially listed in serious condition at Rhode Island Hospital but have since been released. Police say doctors have so far decided to allow the bullets that struck them to remain in their bodies. |
