CUMBERLAND — A local motorist was killed in an early morning accident Saturday.
At approximately 1:06 a.m. Saturday, Cumberland Police responded to a vehicle rollover on Diamond Hill Road. According to police, the vehicle was traveling north on Pine Swamp Road and possibly hydroplaned while taking the Diamond Hill Road exit. The vehicle then rolled over after striking a street sign, police say. Three passengers of the vehicle were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with no serious injuries and were later released. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the deceased and the other three passengers have not yet been released. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, however, police say that it appears to be due to weather conditions coupled with speed. |
