NORTH SMITHFIELD — A 50-year-old Burrillville woman was injured Thursday night after she was struck by a car near the high school athletic field on Providence Pike (Route 5).
Diane Ludden, 50, of 6 Sandy Lane, Harrisville, was treated at the scene by the North Smithfield Fire Department and then taken to Rhode Island Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the car was identified as 48-year-old Mary Begnoche of 79 Follett St., North Smithfield. Begnoche was not injured in the 8 p.m. accident. According to police reports, Begnoche was traveling in the northbound lane of Providence Pike approaching the entrance to the athletic field when her car collided with Ludden who had walked passed a school bus that was parked off of the roadway. Ludden was walking northbound on Providence Pike. The accident remains under investigation by members of the patrol unit and accident reconstruction unit, police said. |
