By RUSS OLIVO WOONSOCKET — A Fairmount Manor resident was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of assaulting an elderly neighbor, police said
Joel A. Comire, 52, of 520 Second Ave., Apt. 314, was arrested shortly before 9 p.m. on one count of assaulting a person over 60, causing bodily injury. The victim, a 78-year-old man who also lives in the complex, was sent to Landmark Medical Center with a bloody nose. About a half-hour earlier, Comire allegedly took a swing at the man while he was watching TV in the hallway on the second floor, police said. Comire never made contact with the victim, however. Police said the victim ducked, lost his balance and fell face down onto his nose. The victim told police Comire attempted to strike him after starting up his car in the parking lot of the Woonsocket Housing Authority-managed complex. Somehow Comire set off the alarm of the victim's car, which was parked next to Comire's vehicle. The victim told police he shut off the alarm with a remote button. Moments later, Comire allegedly rushed into the complex, knocked his TV onto the floor, threatened to kill him and then took a swing at him, the victim said. The Woonsocket Fire Department was called to unlock Comire's apartment door, because he wasn't answering, police said. |
