PROVIDENCE — A Burrillville man has been indicted on one count of murder. Aaron Menard, 18, of 25 Darcy Lane, Burrillville, was indicted by a Providence County Grand Jury on Friday.
Menard is accused of murdering 26-year-old Kenneth J. Wanamaker of Smithfield in the second degree on Aug. 15 in a parking lot on Esmond Street in Smithfield. Police were called to an Esmond Street parking lot on Aug. 15 by a caller who reported that a male was “lying in a pool of blood.” Upon arrival, police discovered that Wanamaker had been stabbed three times. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. Upon investigation, police discovered that Wanamaker and 24-year-old Nicole Sherman of 11 Esmond St. were involved in a dispute outside Sherman’s residence around 10 p.m. that evening. Wanamaker and Sherman are the parents of a 2-year-old child, but do not reside together, according to police. Wanamaker left, but apparently returned to the apartment on Esmond Street around 1:15 a.m. He returned dressed all in black, including black gloves and boots, according to police. Menard, Sherman’s boyfriend, had been staying at her apartment for a couple of nights. Menard was apparently asleep in the apartment on Esmond Street with Sherman early Friday morning, when the two apparently awoke to a noise outside a window. Menard allegedly grabbed two kitchen knives and went outside with Sherman to investigate the sound twice. On the second time outside, they apparently discovered Wanamaker. A fight soon began and Wanamaker was apparently stabbed during this altercation. Officers discovered one of the knives in a wooded area. The other knife had apparently been thrown on the roof of a building on Esmond Street. Menard will be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court on Dec. 17. Smithfield police conducted the investigation. |
