WOONSOCKET — A quick response by local police officers was credited for the arrest of two burglars inside Al Drew’s Music at 526 Front St. Thursday night.

Nathan R. Plante, 19,  of 256 Front St., and Nathan Lanctot, 19, of 554 Robinson St., were apprehended after officers reportedly found them inside the attic of the longtime local music business.
Patrolman Kenneth Marcotte and Probationary Patrolman Jesse Nunnemacher joined Patrolman Jamie Martin at the scene shortly after the 11:57 p.m. alarm came in. The  trio guarded entry and exit points while other officers headed to the scene, police said.
Martin reported seeing a man inside the store. Upon entry, police saw wet sneaker prints that had apparently been left by someone coming in from the heavy rain falling outside.
The patrol unit members and Lt. Eugene Jalette followed the footprints to an area leading to an attic entry point.
Jalette spotted Nathan Lanctot in the attic and called him down without incident, police said.
Lanctot allegedly told the officers an associate had fled the building, but a further check of the attic turned up Nathan Plante hiding there, police said.
Police believe the would-be burglars got in through a window. The suspects were reported to have rifled the store office before being spotted by police.
After a preliminary check of his business, store owner David Drewniak reported nothing appeared to have been taken. Drewniak praised police for their quick response, and for making a thorough search of the business in their hunt for the culprits
Prior to his arrest Thursday, Nathan Lanctot was on probation for charges related to breaks into local businesses last year, according to police. The suspect was reported to have entered a no contest plea in March to felony breaking and entering charges stemming from his arrest last November for a nighttime break into the Quick Mart on Diamond Hill Road.
An investigation found the suspect to have been involved in at least two other breaks and attempted breaks, according to police.
Court records indicate that Lanctot was given six years probation in March, and was also ordered to make restitution and complete community service.
He was arraigned with Plante on the new charges in District Court Friday, police said.
